Sadly, it's pretty obvious that Patrick trusts Watson more than anyone else in the room right now and it seems pretty obvious that Patrick is frustrated by it.
Yeah, that pesky AFC championship game last year was tough.

Mahomes and an elite defense is a ****ing cheat code. What a bunch of ****ing pussies some of you are.
The defense has been amazing and I keep saying that you can't have elite talent at every position.

Yes, there's plenty of reasons to be excited about the season and presumably the WRs will get better.

I also realize Mahomes doesn't have a pro bowl type performance every game and the OL didn't do the offense any favors.

With all that said:

I do generally expect that Mahomes and Andy can make WRs look considerably better than they would look with a middle of the pack QB and offense. So my presumption is that if KC's receivers look below average, they probably suck.

Maybe this is the one that doesn't work out, I dunno. Seems a little shortsighted to not have confidence that it will work out.
And every time they rebuilt one of those groups, there were growing pains, and the usual suspects couldn't trust the process, just like now.

They. Will. Never. Learn.

There has to be some truth in the matter that this offense for WR's is complicated because it is the only position I have noticed where he is reluctant to unleash rookies. As you mentioned he did that with the OL, DB's, LB's etc over his tenure here.

It eventually won't work out. They probably won't continue to host champ games every year, this shit is hard.

The Pats went thru lull seasons where they had to rebuild. Is what it is.

Or maybe, just maybe, they're a bunch young guys that need some growth and development on the field.

Amazing how hard it is for some of you to grasp this.

Could they just "suck"? Absolutely.

Is it was too ****ing early to determine that? Absolutely.

And I'm not arguing they shouldn't have gone this route. I'm arguing that if you're going to take multiple years to develop your WR's, that you don't have to develop the entire room at the same time while we're in a QB window, your QB is in his prime and your HOF TE is nearing his mid-30's.

I don't care what you think of Juju or how easy you may think his production will be to replace - but Patrick TRUSTED him, and gave him an option when 87 wasn't available.

We don't have that right now, and likely won't anytime soon. It's a huge risk.

You've admitted that you hated the Skyy Moore pick, but he infact just did that Sunday.

I didn't care for the pick myself, but if yesterday is what you get out of the guy, that's pretty much a JJSS replacement.

Yuuuuuuuuup.

That 'explanation' from Veach is insulting, IMO.

"Yeah, we think you fans are just going to take it as an article of faith that our system is just that much more complicated than everyone else's..."

McVay has a hell of a deep system in his own right and he has a guy out there executing it. He has a QB that improvises and they've figure it out.

"Andy's complicated scheme" has always been a flimsy excuse to me. I think it's a hell of a lot less complicated than that - it's a trust issue for Reid (and by extension, Mahomes).

If he isn't absolutely certain you'll be in the right place at the right time for 95% of your reps and he has an alternative that he thinks will be, he's going to go with the alterative.

Because not getting open may mean a stalled drive. But just running a stupid route may mean a turnover. Reid seems content with taking some ceiling out of the offense in exchange for raising floor when it comes to turnovers. And he doesn't have the patience it would seem to require to put up with in-season growing pains from younger WRs.

When he doesn't have a choice he trusts more, he seems like he'll play them. Or if he has a rookie like Hill who bring so MUCH more ceiling that it justifies the lower floor. But when it's Moore - who's ceiling isn't higher than anyone else out there and who's floor was clearly lower - he's not gonna force that guy into the lineup. It's early yet to see how he's handling Rice but I do think he's using him a little more aggressively than he used Moore. And Ross is getting about the same level of run as Moore did at this time last year.

It's not scheme - its trust and philosophy, IMO.

We have those SB trips because we weren't relying on an entire room of WR's at the same time. There was always someone there to count on, to step up and produce when teams tried to shut Kelce down.

Who is that person right now?

Toney? Not healthy.

MVS? LOL

Watson? LOL

Again, I love that we're taking shots in the draft, but if you're going to make things so difficult it takes three years to understand things, you have to supplement the room with guys you can count on while being patient with the young guys.
The WRs aren’t drastically different than last year. People are shitting on Watson, but he’s been doing a good job catching what’s thrown his way. Maybe he emerges. Moore is getting open a lot.

Seems like the most critic people at this point are those that didn’t like the picks to begin with.

But then why would he trust rookie OL? They are likely to get the QB hospitalized if they make a mistake.
