If you can’t watch Toney play live and see his talent jump off the screen, nobody can help you.

Dude is one of the most talented players in the league.

Unfortunately, he’s Percy Harvin.

Toney had some cartilage in his knee cleaned up, he isn't "injured". This has nothing to do with his hamstring issues. Its not in the same ballpark. If he had a tendon issue it would be another story.

If we compare him to Richie James with the NYG to the Toney NYG we see the following:
James 70 targets, 569 yards, 4 TDs, 33.5 yards a game
Toney 60 targets, 420 yards, 0 TDs, 35 yards a game. Even with the Chiefs...7 games, 171 yards

James seems to be a better player at this point because he's more reliable and his advanced stats on getting 3rd downs are much better.

Skyy has been in the offense longer and has shown he can get good separation.

Rice is running back type YAC skills, younger and seemed productive in the preseason.

MVS is a deep threat and maybe not a well rounded WR but we know what he is and he's shown he can make big plays in big games.

Justyn Ross pops off the screen. Plus he's taller and a legitimate goalline threat.

There is an argument that Toney will be WR6 ahead of Justin Watson by the time the season is all said and done.

Not sure why you're using tgts/recs, but whatever.

If we go by his availability, sure he's had injury issues, and that has dimmed his value as a WR.

However, as to why I think he's the best WR in the room, well that's easy.

He can consistently beat DB1s.

He's gone 1v1 with Trevon Diggs (NYG), and won, off the LoS, with Diggs going full press, multiple times. ditto Anthony Brown (ranked top-10 in 2021). He smoked Justin Simmons (ranked 10th among all S in 2022).

And so on.

he obviously has the best releases of any of our WRs, beats the jam consistently against the best DBs in the league, gets YAC when there isn't any room, he's very hard to tackle, and maybe most importantly:

DBs fear him.

And then as a gadget guy, no one else on the team looks as much like Hardman on jet sweeps or screens.

So, my contention, is that when healthy, Toney is the most complete WR in the room, the most versatile, and the most dangerous. He's the guy that DCs are going to plan for, the guy that they're going to ask, "where is 19?" before every snap, the guy that can change field position, even the course of a game.

Now, you're not going to believe me, of course, so here's a little visual evidence:

Toney hasn't been asked to do a lot of just line up and go, yet, so most of these are gadget type plays, but there's a few traditional routes in here:

I think you’re downplaying the meniscus thing. The way he cuts so violently coupled with his meniscus issue is a big cause for concern for his long term durability. Im of the opinion that KC will have him through his 5th year option year at max then let’s him walk or trades him.

Rice has superior RAS score. Toney certainly has potential but he's a 3rd year NFL WR now. I think Rice and Ross could easily jump him. Plus Richie James was the most reliable WR in the NFL last year by catch rate over expected and also has amazing 3rd down WR numbers. He could become Mahomes comfort blanket.

Was Toney ever “shown” to be a locker room cancer?

Seems to me he just had a case of the “played for a shithead Patriots cancer tard” and never got a good chance with Daboll, who probably burned that relationship far too early

Its one thing if you are a 6th rounder but he was a 1st round talent and they still choose to jettison him. Should be some red flags. By all accounts in KC hes been a good teammate but that issue can still loom.

There were huge red flags. Toney's personality with that head coach is not a good fit. Daboll didn't mesh with him and some immaturity turned a situation toxic.

He would have never been successful in NY as he wasn't happy and he was in the HC dog house. KC is a great spot for him, veteran leadership, NFL superstars to mentor him and a head coach that does great with players.

A change of scenery can be an amazing thing, it seems like it worked in this scenario.
