Do we want DeHop?

https://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/nfl...9536dcd3&ei=21

Story by Andrew Gould

The Kansas City Chiefs won the Super Bowl without a star wide receiver, but they could reportedly make an elite offense even scarier by acquiring DeAndre Hopkins.

NFL insider Benjamin Albright told PHNX Cardinals that Kansas City is the "primary suitor" for Hopkins. He doesn't know the draft compensation the Cardinals would receive, but he said it's more likely they get a second-round pick than a first.

After the 2022 season, theScore's Jordan Schultz reported that the Cardinals plan to trade Hopkins this offseason.

Arizona hired a new general manager and head coach after a disappointing four-win season, and Hopkins is set to make $19.45 million (with a $30.75 million cap hit) in 2023. The Cardinals could seek a clean slate by moving the three-time All-Pro wideout, who turns 31 in June.

Hopkins began his Cardinals career by tallying 1,407 yards and six touchdowns in 2020. However, multiple lower body injuries limited him to 10 games in 2021, and he served a six-game suspension to start the 2022 season for violating the NFL's PED policy.

Yet he remains an impact player when on the field. Hopkins totaled 474 receiving yards in six full games with quarterback Kyler Murray last season.

Now imagine what he can accomplish when catching passes from Patrick Mahomes.

The Chiefs flourished without a star replacement for Tyreek Hill, but they could still benefit by solidifying the position this offseason. JuJu Smith-Schuster is a free agent after garnering 78 catches for 933 yards on a one-year deal. The depth chart features several talented question marks in Mecole Hardman, Kadarius Toney, and Marquez Valdes-Scantling.

Adding Hopkins could be great news for Kansas City, but terrible for all opposing defenses.

Do we want a high priced prima donna?

He's supremely talented but can't stay healthy is a "weird take"?

WTF.

We talking about the same guy, right?

How about we wait until he's actually hurt before we move him down the depth chart that the Chiefs are telling people about?

Now, this about you getting all bitchy and emotional because i said Skyy is our starting perimeter receiver.

You'd think your ass would be over joyed about that or some shit.

Great plan! Wait until an often injured receiver gets hurt!

Oh I'm not getting into y'alls squabble.

But at some point the irony ought to be acknowledged here. Nobody - NOBODY - took more shit than Detox and I for our opinions on Skyy Moore and I think it's probably fair to say that we were the low men on the guy.

And now there's like 5 people who are saying "hey, I kinda feel like Moore could start for us", 2 of those people are Detox and me and we're taking heat for that.

Now I'll add a caveat to mine in that I don't want him to start because I would like to see the offense changed up a bit from last year in a way that keeps us from NEEDING to utilize Kelce as the Z receiver while putting a WR in areas traditionally occupied by the TE.

But barring that sort of change to the offense, I think Moore absolutely could stand in where JJSS was last season and we'd just be the same as we were a year ago (presuming we bring in depth options to backfill).

There just seem to be positions here that are completely irreconcilable as they relate to Skyy Moore and it ain't coming from my side of this particular debate.

None of this is going to matter come November, when KC is angling for home field yet again.

His take isn't weird or nuanced.

It's "He's never healthy, so saying 'if healthy' means precisely dick..."

I won't quite go out on that limb with him, but it's absolutely a reasonable position.

It matters in that expecting a 34 year old TE to remain an all world player for your offense to work is risky as ****.

That's not a plan. I'm not talking about the Chiefs plan. I'm talking about the discussion about our current top 2 weapons.

MVS, Toney and Moore will be more than capable if:

MVS and Mahomes get more on the same page.
Toney stays relatively healthy.
Moore shows why they drafted him in the 2nd round.

It’s that ****ing simple. Add another high pick and a depth piece and I think we’ll be okay. Or add Davis and another draft pick.

Um don't forget that almost all of Mahomes passes went mainly to Kelce, JuJu and MVS with Toney and Skyy only having around 30 targets.

Reid has said publicly that BOTH Toney and Skyy will have larger roles this next season!

So why can't:

2022-Kelce, JuJu and MVS
BE
2023-Kelce, Toney, Skyy and MVS

Just give Toney and Skyy JuJu's target along with what they had last season and they both will end up with around 75-80 targets.

Most people here thought Skyy could do Juju’s job. And for all of his faults, he was actually pretty good in the Chargers game when Juju was out.

I don’t see a problem there.

I am starting to wonder if Veach is strongly considering a play for a WR at 31. If you look at the DL it does appear to be better than last year already.

Omenihu>Clark, Jones is Jones, Danna in a contract year and had 5 sacks (many pressures too) in only 13 games, Karlaftis year 2 and Turk as rotational depth.

Perhaps they are thinking the depth of the class can net them a quality starter at 63 while addressing WR?

This time of year is so uncertain but I really could see them doing this. Maybe that guy is Jalin Hyatt?
