In this day an age, you need a top QB to be a strong perennial contender. That is the general consensus backed up by a lot of recent data. But you don't need a top QB to win one Super Bowl and that is what the Dolphins may be trying to pull off in the next 2-3 years.

Tua in all likelihood is not a long term answer for the Dolphins but he may be a good value at QB over the next 2-3 years.

The standard for a QB to win a single SB isn't as high if that QB is on a rookie contract/relatively lowly paid and the team isn't having to carry too many bad contracts.

Dolphins appear to be positioning themselves for a SB run a year from now with or without Tua.

I would not be surprised at all if Tua has a fairly good season this year statistically speaking and he does a better job running the ball but I wouldn't invest big money in him on a 2nd contract given the injury risk and what I perceive as his level of talent.

Looks like the GM's are going into draft mode. All is quiet, every team doing their homework on this upcoming rookie class. I don't believe for a second Veach will be trading up in the first round, like many are project. That would be a huge mistake.

I think with the massive and deep draft class gms are just waiting it out. A lot of these guys may be left in the coke. Guys like Albert Wilson come to mind.

Well 12 rookies aren’t going to make the team so they have to do something

IMO, 2nd to 3rd round will be the Chiefs sweet spot for trades.

4 of those picks are 7th rounders and I bet 9 (or maybe even 10) of the picks make the final roster.

Four of those are 7th rounders; it just means that's where you grab your priority UDFA's, and probably stash them on the practice squad.

There are 8 meaningful draft picks, all in the first four rounds. Most of the veteran depth on the team is gone, and there are starter reps to be had at several positions, so yeah, I really DO think we're keeping just about all of these picks.

indeed. it's not a normal year. we have more meaningful depth-holes than normal.

This team has always been at their best when they're counted out. I expect a great season as all the talk I g heads and opponents are saying the run is over.

I get it... but, I doubt too many talking heads really believe that storyline. If nothing else, they're doing their best to talk up the competitiveness, but I doubt any of them really believes that KC is on a decline.

Don't you?

In the last 20 years there have been 2 SB winners who were quarterbacked by dudes who aren't going to the HoF. The Ravens w/ Flacco and Eagles with Foles.

And Flacco was at least very good at the time. He also happened to get white hot in that playoff stretch and Tua simply doesn't have that club in his bag.

Trying to win a SB w/ a 'meh' quarterback is exactly why many of these teams have failed at it. It's why the 49ers lost for sure. Garropollo had the game in his hands and just overthrew a wide open Emanuel Sanders. That's the throw a championship caliber QB needs to make and Grapes just couldn't.

And with the stack of QB firepower in the AFC (not to mention the 1-bye format), an Eagles situation where a team w/ a mediocre QB gets a first round bye then beats a decaying Matt Ryan and completely overmatched Case Keenum to get to the SB just isn't happening.

Nah - the Dolphins are drawing dead.
