Chris Jones?

Anyone else getting worried about our situation with Chris Jones? With a potentially reduced Salary Cap we might not be able to pay him what we thought we could, not to mention he might not want to play under the cap... What would be a suitable trade for him if we're put in a tough spot and can't lock him down?

Yeah I’d say he plays under the tag this year but a long term deal isn’t happening. We will let him walk next year.

not really. Based on last year, I expect he'll show up and play great this season. I hope he earns a huge contract from the Jets or whomever after winning back to back Superbowls

We will get this year for one last run with the original players. Jones fate was sealed when we signed and traded for Clark. Jones is a fantastic pass rusher but not a $25 million a year run defender.

The Chiefs have to live in reality. If we didn't have Mahomes, sure we'd sign him. I love the guy. But, we do have Mahomes and a NFL salary cap. His potential $25 million is needed to pay Mahomes.

Depends on Chris Jones and his agent. If they are realistic about what is going on with the salary cap then there should be a way. If they are not realistic then he has to be traded.

I continue to believe that Chris Jones deal is tied directly to Mahomes. It will happen at the same time as Mahomes if it’s going to happen. Depending on how much they have to free up for Mahomes this year (new contract vs extension) will determine if CJ gets a new deal IMO.

So stay tuned. They have another 5-6 weeks to figure it out.

And if CJ gets traded it will mean we have more flexibility down the road. Would love to keep him but probably makes more sense to let him walk. But I do hope they find a way to work it out and keep him in KC.

I think everyone knows that if he is traded it will be next off season.

Gotta get Mahomes signed before any other major move. If that means losing Jones, everyone understands. It will suck, but we will understand.

As I understand it, before Chris Jones can be signed, Mahomes contract has to be worked out, and possibly so does Kelce's. I believe that there was an article on Arrowhead Pride about it.

Personally, I'm not worried about Jones' contract (yet), because both he and Veach have stated numerous times that they want a long-term relationship. And Veach knew that Jones was going to want top dollar before they signed F. Clark, and that Kelce's contract would need fixing, and that Mahomes' contract would need to be sorted, so I'm betting he had some kind of plan before this off-season.

So I'm betting that Jones and Veach aren't talking about his contract yet because everyone knows that at the very least Mahomes' deal needs to be figured out first.

They can't do anything with either contract until they see what the salary cap is most likely gonna look like next year. If the salary cap is really going to end up going down next season, $30 to $80 Million, as Schefter reported then it is going to be hard to sign anyone.
