So lets talk some legit options for our pick.

So with Breeland coming back that pretty much leaves us open to take the best player on the board.

I'd like in this thread to post some videos and such since in a lot of threads there are questions about how good a guy is and what he can do so twitter and youtube of course are great for vids.

Even though I've pined for Willie Gay quite a bit there are numerous other guys I'd be fine with using our pick on because well they'd be fine fits.

So I'll start with some Willie Gay video since I've been asked a few times what he's good at...

Yea, Watkins is a physical WR especially after the catch and when the ball is in the air. He also wins against press coverage.

If you’re looking for a Watkins type replacement, Aiyuk ain’t it.

I’ve heard it all now. Watkins is a physical WR! You’re an idiot. What’s he doing after the catch that makes him so physical? Breaking tackles and plowing through guys?

I think you do.

It helps in the red zone. It also helps against those really physical teams that can press across the board, like New England. Watkins/whoever replaces him typically is facing the 3rd or maybe even 4th best DB a team has. If you have a guy who is skilled at beating press who also has speed, you get things like Watkins' put-away TD against Tennessee.

I still see Denzel Mims as the ideal sort of fit. He'd give them a guy who's really dangerous on fades (and KC has the personnel and scheme to make sure he's isolated outside with no over-the-top help in the red zone). But he's also quick and can gain early separation, and is a dangerous downfield option.

One scout told The Athletic's Bob McGinn he believes Baylor WR Denzel Mims is "better than CeeDeel Lamb and maybe better than Jerry Jeudy."
"He can really go up and make acrobatic plays on the ball. He showed at the Senior Bowl he can beat press coverage and get open at the top of routes," the scout continued. "He’s bigger, faster, longer. You’ve got a chance to really hit on Mims." Opinions were split on Mims among the 17 executives/scouts McGinn interviewed, as Mims was voted the second-most likely wideout to become a bust, behind only Colorado's Laviska Shenault. “He’s an outside receiver. He’s going to need a lot of work on how to run routes. He has tight shoulders. Better high-ball catcher than low-ball catcher. More of a 400-meter guy. He’s got inconsistent hands. He’s going to need work on how to get off press. He’s just got average body control," said a different scout. "I got him in the second round.” Mims flew up draft boards after a strong Senior Bowl and Combine.

Yes. Unbelievable to have such a high quality group. Our top WR’s from years ago like Bowe couldn’t even make this team as a backup. It’s crazy to have such a strength at a position. They sure have improved over Steve Breaston lol

Watkins is a top WR, and there is a lot of talk of the depth in the draft. So getting a top talent as his replacement will be a key part of our offense going forward. In the meanwhile, it provides yet another weapon for our General.

Plow through guys? Your description of physicality makes zero sense. Watkins wins in press coverage, bodies defenders when the ball is in the air, and rarely gets bumped off his routes or when the ball is thrown deep. He’s a contact guy.

Aiyuk isn’t a Watkins type receiver. At all. Doesn’t mean he couldn’t fit, or develop, but he’s more finesse than Hardman coming out.

What the **** does any of that have to do with “after the catch”?

I’m comparing the two because they’re both great after the catch. I’m comparing the two because they’re both bigger than Hardman/Hill. I also compared their ability to still challenge vertically. I wasn’t talking about their physicality. You brought that up.

Are you denying that Aiyuk is great after the catch? Are you denying that he’s bigger than Hardman/Hill?

I’m talking about different skill sets, not a difference in physicality dumbass.

Do you have an athletic account? They're doing a 90 day free trial but I don't really wanna sign up because I'll forget to cancel it with the 8 million other auto pulls I have.....a dude on there Bob McGinn is doing a series on what scouts have to say about players.

Anyone could probably post the stuff since the site is free right now...

No reason to name call. Have a discussion.

I lump physicality and skill set similarly. Aiyuk, although similar in size to Watkins, plays more like a Hardman or a Hill. The guy CANNOT get off press coverage, constantly gets bumped off routes, and is very inconsistent through tight coverage. That’s the opposite of Watkins.

But you’re right, he is solid (not great) as a catch and run guy.

His catch and run is the best part of his game, half his yards are on screens etc.
