So lets talk some legit options for our pick.

So with Breeland coming back that pretty much leaves us open to take the best player on the board.

I'd like in this thread to post some videos and such since in a lot of threads there are questions about how good a guy is and what he can do so twitter and youtube of course are great for vids.

Even though I've pined for Willie Gay quite a bit there are numerous other guys I'd be fine with using our pick on because well they'd be fine fits.

So I'll start with some Willie Gay video since I've been asked a few times what he's good at...

So many people have Epenesa and Davidson as interior pass rushers in subs that I think they qualify for both.

I also think WR is more likely than OT because Watkins and Robinson are probably gone after this year, and there’s just a lot of smoke that Veach will always be looking at weapons for Mahomes early every single year.

You can make very rational arguments for Delpit, McKinney and Winfield that make sense so I could see that even though people don't see it as a need.

I still think if we go that route that it will be Jeremy Chinn. He fits what we’re looking for better than those guys because he could end up at WLB long term while giving you a “starting” sub package LB right now.

9. DAMON ARNETTE | Ohio State 5115 | 195 lbs. | rSR. Fort Lauderdale, Fla. (St. Thomas) 9/2/1996 (age 23.64) #3

BACKGROUND: Damon Arnette Jr. (are-NET) played primarily wide receiver and linebacker at Fort Lauderdale’s St. Thomas Aquinas where he played with future Ohio State teammate Nick Bosa and current NFL running back Jordan Scarlett. As a senior, he helped lead the program to their second 7A state title in three years, finishing the 2014 season with eight passes defended and three interceptions.
[201]

A four-star cornerback recruit out of high school, Arnette initially verballed to South Carolina, the first school that offered him, but he kept an open mind as more programs showed interest. He narrowed his college choice to Michigan, Ohio State and South Carolina, signing with the Buckeyes on signing day. Arnette’s father (Damon Sr.) played college basketball at Florida Atlantic (1995-99) and professionally overseas. He graduated with his degree in communications (May 2019). Arnette accepted his invitation to the 2020 Senior Bowl.

PRO DAY N/A (Pro Day canceled)

STRENGTHS: Quick-footed athlete with easy acceleration…clean footwork in his transition…smoothly flips his hips and stays on the same plane vertically…patient in press, mirroring the movements of receivers…hungry, reliable run defender and always rallies to the football…settles his feet as a tackler and strikes to finish…quick to shed stalk blocks…displays the toughness to play through injuries – wore a cast on his right wrist most of the 2019 season…praised by his coaches and teammates for his development as a senior (Ohio State head coach Ryan Day: “The strides he’s taken the last year have been unbelievable.”).

WEAKNESSES: Cut down on downfield contact as a senior, but overly physical and gets grabby downfield, attracting attention from officials…wild hand placement at the top of routes…mediocre ball skills and lacks timing when attacking the catch point…late to gear down out of his breaks…inconsistent getting his head turned to find the football…doesn’t have the play strength to overwhelm defenders from press or downfield…gives up inside position too easily…will be a 24-year old NFL rookie…showed growth as a senior, but immaturity is still a big question mark, allowing his emotions to get the best of him or showing erratic behavior…broke his right wrist (August 2019), which required a procedure (October 2019) and a cast.

SUMMARY: A three-year starter at Ohio State, Arnette lined up at right cornerback in former defensive coordinator Jeff Hafley’s NFL press-man scheme, seeing extensive reps on an island in Cover 1. Although he wanted to leave for the NFL after his junior season, he returned as a senior and became one of the most improved seniors in the country in 2019 (Safety Jordan Fuller: “He’s just a different guy…his whole approach to everything he does has changed.”). While he cleaned up the panic plays that plagued him as an underclassmen, Arnette aggressively rides receivers in coverage and still has room to improve his downfield discipline and ball skills. As an athlete, he shows terrific reaction quickness and enough speed to stay on top of receivers vertically. Overall, Arnette is a charged-up run defender and
boasts the athletic traits to stay hip to hip with receivers at all depths of the field, projecting as a man-to-man NFL starter if his reported maturation checks out.

GRADE: 2nd-3rd Round

Are you talking about taking this guy in the 1st? Because I don't think so.

McKinny actually could give you reps at both safety spots, slot and sub LB......Delpit has elite speed so he could take the entire middle by himself opening up Thornhill and Mathieu to move....

Winfield is like a Mathieu clone.

It seems crazy to me that Delpit could fall to our pick.

I agree with all of that and all 3 of those guys have versatility that would make sense at 32.

I’m just saying I think they’d like a long term solution at LB (with more upside) better. Either of those guys are still your 3rd safety, whereas Chinn could be your starting WLB in a year (maybe even less).

McKinney would be a no-brainer at #32, and Delpit would not necessarily be a shock either. They have the athleticism and football iq to be deployed in multiple ways. As huge as Sorenson was during the playoff run, he will get exposed by most offenses. Chinn has exciting potential in a similar role but his competition level concerns me. I’m not taking him at #32 - maybe with a trade back to middle of Round 2, but not before.

I see where you are going with that, however in todays game, safeties that can play a bunch of spots are basically starters now, any of those guys would see starter number of reps.

Where is the value if that's the case?

And Fulton was one of the few CB's that I entertained taking in our spot before.

Arnette is better.

And these same NFL write ups are that you are referring to did such brilliant work as this:

Patrick Mahomes 5.87

WEAKNESSES Can be inconsistent in his approach. Needs to play inside the offense and show more discipline. Too eager to go big game hunting. Ravenous appetite for the explosive play can also bring unwanted trouble. Willingness to default to playground style appears to limit his ability to get into a consistent rhythm. Needs to improve anticipatory reads and learn to take what the defense gives him. Decision making can go from good to bad in a moment's notice. Operates from a narrow base and allows his upper body and arm to race ahead of his feet. Has a dip and wind-up in his standard release. Explosive delivery and follow-through causes some throws to sail. Needs better touch on intermediate and deep balls. Carries ball a little low in the pocket. Impatient. Will leave pocket prematurely rather than standing in and winning in rhythm. Better as a scrambler than pure runner. Looked a little less mobile in the open field this season.
DRAFT PROJECTION Round 1-2

Might as well call these NFL profiles on NFL.com NFL astrology!

They gave Nathan Peterman in the same draft a similar grade to a generational QB. A guy that was so bad at Tennessee he got apples thrown at him and chased out of the conference.

I've seen him fall as far as 50 in mocks, he had some injuries and his senior year was a bit down, had he come out last year he'd have gone higher.

Yea I don’t think it’s a huge difference. I’m just putting the pieces together based on reports that the Chiefs are looking for a coverage LB (and their attempts to find one with DOD and Lee).

Teams see Chinn as a guy that’s one hell of a consolation prize if you missed out on Simmons. Other than Young and maybe Okudah, I don’t think the Chiefs would have anybody higher on their board than Simmons.

Chinn is athletically similar to Simmons which is weird to think about, I was reading a thing the other day that a few teams think CJ Henderson is better than Okudah.

No, this is from Dane Brugler's draft guide and he actually knows his shit.

Damon Arnette sounds a lot like Stephen Nelson, no thanks in the first.

Also having him better than Diggs, Johnson and Fulton. Okay. I'll go with the draft expert on that.

Yea their athletic profiles are near identical. Simmons is a little bigger and a little faster, while Chinn is a little more explosive. It’s very close.

But yea I saw that too. First, Matt Miller reported it than Peter King said a GM told him 40% of teams have Henderson higher. I don’t quite believe it’s that high, but it has to be significant.
