Chiefs defensive improvements after eight games

Chiefs have made strides. We just need to keep getting a little better and get healthy. Flame away.

Did you guys hear Honey Badger a week or so ago talking about how everybody needs to buy into the scheme from the DL to the secondary?

Ever since I listened to him say that it seemed that he was talking directly to Jones.

Maybe a couple others.

If Jones comes back with a fire about him, and he pairs with Saunders...hopefully that makes the defense a lot more disruptive.

That’s where I stand. If he comes back and balls out extend him. If he comes back and is the same old Jones then you don’t re sign him

Yeah the same old All-Pro Jones... any DT in this league can get you 15 sacks and 29 TFL you know.

That guy is the most underrated Chiefs player on this forum.

He is legit one of the best defensive players in the game but I've seen many clueless fans around here wonder if the defense is better without him.

Silly.

I’d like to see some DOD some. Dude was blowing up running back screens last year and showed some speed. I wish we knew the deal with him this year. Getting the early Ragland treatment riding the pine.

For all the hate everyone has given Ward he's been pretty good lately. If only they had that one great all around linebacker...

Spags has tightened up the run D over the last 2 games. Sure, there's been a couple awshits, but for the most part there's a lot less ramming it up the middle for big gains. The secondary is either getting away with DPI or maybe they just figured out how to stick with their guy.
I'm still in on keeping Jones as long as he isn't going to ask for a Brink's truck of cash. I'd like to see us work something out with Ogbah.

This. All I really care about are situational stops. Rankings are all fine and dandy for internet fodder but at some point the defense is going to have to make a stop with 4-5 minutes to play. They've had three chances in 8 games and have yet to do it.

The Chiefs defense stopped the Colts late in that game before the offense shit the bed.

The Colts got the ball on the KC 40 needing a TD to ice the game. The Chiefs held them to 3 points.

This was after a Colts punt on the previous possession. And the possession before that.

Naw. Got ran over too many times, like the whole game. And you're talking about a very depleted KC offense.

(1) Not true on your last point. The defense gave up a 9 minute drive that resulted in a field goal on the prior possession. Which made the game 16-10. They punted on the possession prior to that...after milking 6 minutes off the clock.

(2) You're being disingenuous. The Chiefs defense did not "stop" the Colts late in the game. They held them to 6 after giving up two drives that resulted in 12 minutes off the clock.

I'll concede that the offense was objectively terrible that game. But we also had the ball for less than 4 minutes in the 4th quarter.

This. The chiefs are forcing teams to the same number of punts (3.4 per game) as last year. We haven't really improved when it comes to stops.

The defense is much improved. I don't know how you can watch the games and not see that.

They tackle much better, they're playing the run better, the secondary is light years better overall.

In coverage the LB'ers are still subpar, but part of that is selling out to stuff the run.

The fourth quarter issues have a lot to do with being depleted due to injuries so guys are exhausted, and the fact that our offense is also a MASH unit and isn't scoring points OR holding the ball in the second half.

So yeah, there are issues, but it's clearly trending upwards. If our offense had been relatively healthy all this time, we'd be on cloud nine.
