The penalty was declined though, so the clock should have ran as soon as it was placed on the ground

This feels similar to the Steelers game. Close game due to a combination of home cooking from the refs to help the Browns and poor defense by the Chiefs. Mahomes and the offense will have to keep putting TD's on the board. Can't take their foot off the gas at all.

This. If the clock was running, the spike is legal. If it was stopped, the spike wasn’t legal, the clock stops, it’s a penalty, and a 10 second runoff, end of half...no need to use a timeout. Unless you can use a timeout to prevent the runoff (??)
