Chiefs Asking for Memorabelia
Got this e-mail from Ange Coniglio who runs the "Remember the AFL" website. He got an email from our very own Bob "Rufus Dawes" Moore, current (for the moment anyway) KC Chiefs PR Director. Since Rufus didn't post this on the CP, I thought I would. Ange links to my Chiefs page on his website, God Bless Him:
Here's the E-mail: Hello, AFL fans and former players: Robert Moore, Director of Public Relations for the Kansas City Chiefs, has asked me to forward the following letter to you. If you can help him, please answer him directly at the e-mail address or telephone number shown in his letter. Thanks. Regards, Ange Coniglio www.remembertheafl.com Dear Remember the AFL fans: Lamar Hunt’s founding of the American Football League was a seminal moment in the history of American football. Therefore, it is appropriate that the league’s history be included in the new Hall of Honor paying tribute to the Kansas City Chiefs storied past in a renovated Arrowhead Stadium which is well into construction. The “Hall of Honor” is scheduled to open in 2010 and will contain the story of the AFL as well as tributes to the Chiefs Hall of Famers, the team’s Pro Football Hall of Fame members, the franchise’s various championships in the AFL and all the league’s championships, the top 30 games in team history along with the top 60 plays in team history. Photos and other memorabilia from the Dallas Texans/Kansas City past will line the walls of the lower concourse of the new Arrowhead. But we need the help of devoted AFL fans. We are looking for archival items of interest from the league’s past to include: · Uniform parts and helmets (especially early helmets from the Dallas Texans and Kansas City Chiefs or the New York Titans or an original jersey worn in Super Bowl I, II, III or IV. · Distinctive souvenir pieces from the various cities that had AFL teams · Curiosities that might tell a team or league story like a sombrero from the early days when Oakland owner Chet Soda hoped to call his team the Oakland Senors. · Press materials from the various AFL drafts · Game tickets, season tickets, or ticket brochures · An “AFL-10th” patch worn in Super Bowl IV · Various team logos · Publicity photos like the one of Jack Kemp and Ron Mix modeling new Chargers uniforms in March of 1960. You get the drift. These are but a few of the more obvious kinds of memorabilia we are looking to feature in Arrowhead’s Hall of Honor. You may have others that better tell the league’s story. If you can aide our efforts it will make Lamar Hunt’s dream come true for those who weren’t around when the AFL drew your interest. If you have items, we invite you to email us at questions@kcchiefs.com or call 816/920-4353. Sincerely, Robert B. Moore Director of Public Relations Kansas City Chiefs |
