2025 OL Prospect Thread

Alright guys, let’s have ourselves a 2025 OL Thread.

Current OL Questions:

1) We’ve invested in OL, what are your thoughts on their development path and potential roles next season? ...Kingsley, Morris, Humpries, Caliendo, & Nourzard.

2) Thuney’s holding it down at LT fairly well and getting paid big money, are you open to him playing there or moving him back to LG? For the playoffs & SB or next season?

3) Are you planning on picking up Jawan Taylor’s contract option in 2026 @ $27m cap hit?

2025 OL Draft Prospects:

Depending on where you look we’ll get a chance to draft one of the following O-Lineman @ #32: Jones, Milum, Williams, Ersery, Simmons, Savaiinaea, Conley Jr or Booker. Some OL prospects that CP members have suggested for rounds 2-4 include Ratledge, Membou, Mbow, Jackson, Nelson, Brown, Colby, Belton, Fairchild & Zuhn, C Grant. Not much consistency in rankings or rounds for these prospects yet.

1) Would you take an O-Lineman in the first round or wait until later in the draft?

2) Who do you have your eye one? Why are they a good fit? Are they starters or projects?

3) Please add your own questions, comments, player draft profiles, links, videos etc for your favorite OL targets below!

Current OL Questions:

1) Learning to exercise patience is a difficult thing for fans and a team that is looking to win a Championship but we should probably do so with Suamataia and Morris in terms of development and roles for next season.

Morris is a guy you can get by with as a swing tackle IF you give him some help. He has value there. Personally, I want to see more of him at RT. As for Suamataia, I think he has the athletic tools to start on either side but he just needs the time to develop the rest. We haven't seen him since week two. It sure would be nice to see him at LT against the Broncos to see where he's at but that might not be for more than a half if they try to get Humphries ready for the playoffs.

Suamataia is the type of guy, where if you hit on him, changes how you approach the entire offseason. The real question is, will a rookie 1st round pick be ahead of where Suamataia is going to be headed into year two? I doubt it. The other question is, are there guys in this draft with a higher ceiling? I think there might be a few but is it worth it? Overall, I'd probably consider a one-year veteran stop-gap type to hedge my bets with Suamataia but he'd be given every opportunity to be the starter at LT in 2025. Maybe Humphries would come back on a deal like that but there are other options. Andrus Peat rode the pine in Las Vegas this year and can do a job there if the wheels come off.

As for the OGs... Nourzad and Hanson looked really weak and behind in the offseason. Can they start next year? I'm not thinking they can, but they might be able to be reserves yet again. I think Mettauer will compete with these guys as well. Caliendo is absolutely coming back as an ERFA and might be the starter at RG.

2) I'm not especially open to Thuney playing LT for any significant period of time. He was an OT in college and was moved inside and became one of the best guards the league has ever seen. He's not a good OT though. He can get you by in a pinch with help. If Humphries can play, he'd be my LT with Thuney as my LG for the playoffs. Next season, he'd be my LG again. The biggest question I'd have for Andy Reid and Co. right now is why didn't they give the young guys as much help as they've dedicated to Thuney?

3) Absolutely not. If I did draft an OT this year, it would be with this idea in mind and not as much about my thoughts on the development of the other guys on board.

2025 OL Draft Prospects:

1) I might. If I went OL in round 1 it's for a guy I feel is an absolute fit at LT.

2) Conerly Jr, Milum, and Simmons are appealing. Any or all of those 3 could go much higher than 32. I think all 3 have the requisite athleticism to be a LT in the league. I don't see them as major projects though Simmons recovery from his knee injury is something to take into account. He injured it in October so you're looking at the probability he's back for training camp but he might not start to look like himself until midway through the season.

The second week of his rookie season without help. He's now had 15 more weeks of seasoning.

I was thinking about his last start. My bad. He did play Week 10 and wasn't all that great. I forgot about that one, honestly. Gotta keep giving him reps though. The kid will get it eventually. Now is the time to give him those reps.

I guess, if only to see if they've made any headway in coaching out whatever technique flaw he had that led to him getting beaten so quickly and often by Bonitto. If Andy feels it's still needs work I think he'd be better served just sitting this one out. Reps really aren't all that useful if he's just going to get destroyed repeatedly again and further tank his confidence.

Reps are always useful. It's kind of amusing to see the cries of protest here. Because Joe Thuney is a HoF caliber LG, cries of protest weren't heard after he gave up 10 pressures and a couple of QB hits against Garrett. He adjusted the next week. Yet, a raw as hell rookie gave up 6 pressures and a sack to Bonitto after not playing in 8 weeks and it's the end of the world. I mean, yes, not desirable but also not a reason I'm going to say the kid shouldn't get snaps in a game that doesn't matter. He has to learn how to time the speed of the NFL game in live action. There's only one way to do that.

Thuney didn't let Garrett through near untouched like Suamataia did. Thuney got outright manhandled multiple times but at least he provided enough resistance for the offense to function. Reid eventually got so fed up with Suamataia that he asked Morris to play hurt/injured instead.

Curious to see who gets the reps to develop next game.

I’m open to another short term vet contract, but hope we find our own home grown solution eventually. Not sure if thats a 1st rounder, one of our current guys develops or we add another developmental guy to compete and see who grows into the spot.

We’ll see.

To have a homegrown solution, we have to let the guys develop. That means they need live reps.

Morris has a full year of development over Suamataia right now. Morris pretty much looked like total dogshit last season too. Morris gave up 33 pressures, 5 sacks, 7 QB hits, and 10 penalties in about 5.5 games of work and that all came at the end of the season last year.

Sure, let Suamataia develop. But have a backup option. If a great option is available in rd 1 I think it's worth the investment. If not then so be it, but a veteran who can handle LT if Kingsley still sucks is absolutely necessary. Despite the 15-1 record the offense was still a mess much of the year, and while that's not all attributed to the OL (Mahomes needs to play much better, WR injuries hurt us, etc.) it is a big part of it. We absolutely cannot go into the 3rd year in a row with LT being a revolving door. If they have to overcorrect to fix it, so be it. Draft another OT early, sign someone like Robinson, Jackson, or Stanley, take multiple shots at the position. Taylor is gone after 2025 so we will have another OT position open soon.

All of this is a catch-22.

Signing any of those 3 vets hinders Suamataia and Morris' development because they will sign for multiple years and start in front of both. The ideal veteran comes here on a 1-year deal. Maybe that could be Humphries.

If you go with a 1st rounder, now you're just adding to the developmental group. That 1st rounder might be more ready to play but like I asked before, will there be a huge difference between that player and Suamataia in year two? That's a tough question to answer. Now, if your first rounder starts, Suamataia becomes your RT, and Morris is your Swing, then I'm not all that opposed but it's still a lot of youth developing.

It's a tough call but I don't know if I support the long-term signing of a veteran.

I think Crow boils it down pretty well above.

If we sign Humphries to stay next season, assuming he shows us some intriguing play at some point this season, that gives our “homegrown" OTs another year to develop. If an OT falls to us in the 1st that Veach, Andy, and our scouts really love then we can nab him and let him compete next season and the following for a starting spot. If no strong talent is available for us at the bottom of the 1st this draft, and we’re not happy with Morris and Sua’s development over next season, then we can nab a 1st rounder the following year or just take a 2nd-4th rounder this draft to develop for a season and compete with those two when Humpries and Taylor’s deals are up.

Which brings me back around to Simmons, who seems to be considered a top tier OT who may fall due to his knee injury. If he were drafted by KC, and we resigned Humphries, he’d have plenty of time to heal up and the opportunity to play if someone gets hurt or he proves himself superior to the coaches.

Final thought, if we’re planning on two rookie contract OT’s taking over in 2026 and Thuney’s departure then maybe that gives us more room than most think to resign Smith. Simmons, Thuney, Creed, Smith, Sua/Morris could be solid assuming extensions for our guards.

The reality is historically if you don't get a top three tackle in the draft then its probable that they aren't ready on day one of their rookie season

With that being said trade up to 15 - 20 and get one assuming veatch and company identify one that's worth moving up for. If we have to go up higher than that then its probably going to be two number one picks which I am against.
