We need to have a talk about the nickname "Nuk"
Someone explain this to me.
I'm generally not a fan of player nicknames. Silver Dick Trent Williams being the primary example. Make me understand and like this nickname. |

DeAndre Hopkins, a wide receiver for the NFL, got his nickname "Nuk" from his mother as an infant because he would often chew through NUK pacifiers. The nickname is pronounced "nuke", while the pacifier brand is pronounced "nook".

I had always assumed it had to do with him going "nuclear." Wikipedia enlightened me.

Nuk, after 'nook', is when as a 16 year old he would still 'nook' against his mother as she breast fed him. He grew up big and strong and avoided the steroid police growing up as his mother was on them instead, as we all know if you take steroids through breast milk they are undetectable, and he grew up unnaturally big and strong, knowing one day he would be traded to the Chiefs and play for a real QB.

I assumed his nickname was nuk because he nuked Skyy Moore's chances of ever appearing on an NFL field again.

We're living in a dark age of nicknames. Nicknames haven't been good since WWII, and they were barely good then.
We simply shouldn't have nicknames.
