A level Headed Review Week 11 2024

First - I am writing this without having watched - only listened to half of the 2nd quarter and half of the 3rd. Had to go on an airport run.

Second - we were going to lose at some point, we were fortunate our first loss wasn't last week, yes we made a play at the end of the game but the odds of a FG block ar astronomical. Unfortunate that the first loss comes against Buffalo but we still hold a one game lead against them for the #1 Seed. Buffalo still has to play the 49ers and the Lions of which could be at least one loss. Our schedule is much easier as far as opponents I am concerned with only Denver and the Steelers. I would rather lose to Buffalo now than in the playoffs.

The INT by Pat was just horrible. I get the pocket was collapsing around him but he needs to get better about air mailing passes. Have seen too many of those in the past couple of weeks. Glad to see the rest of the game wasn't

Worthy was the entire first scoring drive (except the Mike Caliendo for 5 yards ). It was almost as if the Chiefs decided to showcase the WR Buffalo traded to them. What a great drive for Worthy 4 receptions for 61 yards and a TD.

Noah Gray with his first multi touchdown game. Hendershot with another catch. I feel like he has made more of a difference with this offense than Wiley has.

The Defense seems to want to blitz Allen from the right side forcing him to his right, which is a huge mistake. Allen can make all the throws rolling to his right. Gotta find the way to pressure him and force him to the left.

N. Johnson got picked on quite a bit today but he managed to have a decent game despite this. The more experience he gets the better we will be as we approach the playoffs. Tied for team lead in tackles with 8 (Connor).

Connor had a great game got the timely INT on 4th down to give the ball back to the O which led to our second score. The Defense isn't getting home with 4 rushers. Hoping Omenihu is going to make more of a difference when he comes back.

Kinda felt like the Allen TD was a "let him score" situation so Pat could get the ball back and we could try again for the win with an onside kick or some other miracle play.

Juju really wasn't the impact I was hoping he would be coming back into the mix with Dhop and Kelce. Hoping Pacheco and Hunt can make us deadly in the running game. Worthy seemed to disappear after that first scoring drive. Hunt was running the ball well but for some reason we weren't using him during the two offensive series it was 16-14

First game in a long time where we lost the TOP 34:03/25:57 - still lost the TO battle 2/1

Didn't get a good look at the OL but they seemed to have done better as the game went on. The first Q was pretty shaky.

I trust these players and this staff to figure it out by the postseason. Still a very good team.

The problem is that the 1 seed just became much more difficult to obtain. The Bills schedule isn’t all that bad besides the Lions.

The Chiefs could’ve had an opportunity to load manage players down the stretch. They can’t now unfortunately. This will be a tight race to the end.

Wait til you see the game.

Offense had one or two good drives, but otherwise just too many mistakes, and if we're honest, Pat had a bad day overall. He was off-target but got bailed out a few times by DHop and whoever else, and Andy didn't call his best game.

But on the bright side, now we can at least stop hearing about the dumb undefeated season crap.

Agree, Pat had one of his all-too-often not great games today. Let's see if he digs deep and makes our O a force to be dealt with, but today was very uninspiring.

And the D's lack of impact with first contact was very apparent and I'm not sure how these egos go back to fundamentals and remember that wrapping up is paramount.

It was not a day the Chiefs want to remember, but one they need to never forget. If they just blow it off as "a loss" and not look at the huge problems that lead to it, they have more heartbreak ahead.

Wasn't on the defense. BUF had 10 drives, scored on 5 of them. That's not great, but it's also not bad.

Our offense had 9 drives tonight. Managed just 3 scores. Just one score in 4 drives in the second half.

I've been saying it for awhile now, and I love great defense, but in today's NFL, you need to score points on offense to win big games. We've leaned on the defense and STs, and fortunate calls by the refs, and watched our offensive efficiency slowly decline, until the last few weeks when we needed poor coaching decisions by the opposing team to get Ws.

Well, today we finally scraped the bottom of that barrel. If we score 33% of the time, we're going to get beat by most decent teams, plain and simple.

I mean, obviously no one intended for the Chiefs to go into this season without Rice and Hollywood, or lose Pacheco to injury, but that's what happened, and just like last season, we're a popgun offense. Which is fine if they're efficient, like say scoring around 45%+ of drives. But that's not where we are. And for some reason we traded for one of the best possession WRs since Jerry Rice or Larry Fitzgerald, and we don't target him more than 3-5 times a game. We'd rather run screens to Perine, or waste targets on Watson and Hendershot.

Well, it came back to bite us finally. Fortunately, not big deal, just a regular season game, and I have little doubt we'll have the 1- or 2-seed regardless. But then we'll be playing against teams that can actually play offense and defense.

We need to get back to players over plays. We just can't afford to waste targets on PS players that may or may not execute in the playoffs.

Is it a wasted target if the WR/RB/TE not named Hopkins/Worthy/Kelce/JJSS catches the ball and makes a play? Watson had a couple good catches, Hendershot caught a ball for 1st and Goal and Grey caught 2 TD passes. I mean I understand what you are driving at but gotta have the team approach. Not all the big names are going to have great games all the time.

We didn't even try to get it our best play-makers at the end. Travis had 1 target all game? DHop had 3? JuJu had 1???

When you get down to your last couple drives and you need to put up 9 pts, yeah, the only players that should be getting the ball should be your best play-makers, imo.

Currently, that would be Travis, DHop, JJSS, and Kareem. After that, Mecole, because he's been in those situations and has come up big for us in the past multiple times. You want to dink around and be cute, fine, do it earlier in the game. But when you have to have it, when you're down to your last couple shots, you have to make them count.

We effed around and found out today.

I’m pretty sure they were rushing 3 and dropping everyone else into coverage. That’s a pretty crowded downfield. To your point about being down 9 shouldn’t have been in “that” position (down two scores) makes it easier to defend imo.

Pretty sure they wren't rushing 3 and dropping 8 on every series.

And we were down 9 because our offense only scored 3 times all game. And scoring efficiency has been a problem for awhile now. And I mean for a couple seasons.

And if we just go back to a couple three weeks ago, our defense allowed 17 pts to TB in the 2nd half. And if Bowles had any nuts, he goes for two and they probably win. But he doesn't, so they don't, and everyone congratulates the team for winning another game, when in reality, TB/Bowles handed it to us instead of taking it from us.

Then last week, our offense managed just two FGs in the 2nd half and it takes an improbable ST play to steal a W from DEN. And you know how many times DHop was targeted in the 2nd half of that game? ONCE.

And tonight zero times on our last drive. When we needed our best players out there making plays, we targeted Perine 3 times and JWat once before Pat threw the INT. And even that throw didn't make much sense to me, because Travis looked bracketed to me. The A-22 may say different, in which case I'll apologize, but as of right now, he didn't look open to me.

I mean, it is what it is. And more than likely it will get sorted out before the playoffs. I'm 99% certain it will. But I'm not going to pretend the offense is functioning well, or that our scant offensive resources are currently being used as efficiently as possible, because I just don't believe that.

Ymmv.

Disagree that the Chiefs schedule is “much easier”, especially the final three games of the season.

Chiefs - Houston, at Pittsburgh, at Denver.

Bills - New England, Jets, at New England.

If we’re up 2 games on the Bills going into the final 3, then we’ll probably take the 1 seed.

If we’re only up 1, then the Bills probably take it.

We probably have a loss in those final 3, and it’s a little hard to imagine the Bills dropping one of those.

Houston is not as good as we thought they were. Russell Wilson is still Russell Wilson....New England/New York always play tough within their division

The league was also nice enough to give Buffalo a bye week and home field advantage on San Francisco in 2 weeks. The Niners don't have a bye week leading into that matchup.

Also Buffalo plays their remaining games on Sundays, and are just now getting their bye.

Chiefs have black Friday short week vs Raiders. Saturday vs Houston then Wednesday vs. Steelers.

One of which is against a really good Lions team - I'm putting money on a Buffalo loss there - the Rams are no pushover either.
