Ticketmaster hacked. 560 million customers data being held hostage.
This has become public so I’ll post here.
Ticketmaster owner Live Nation confirmed "unauthorised activity" on its database after a group of hackers said they had stolen the personal details of 560 million customers. ShinyHunters, the group claiming responsibility, says the stolen data includes names, addresses, phone numbers and partial credit card details from Ticketmaster users worldwide. The hacking group is reportedly demanding a $500,000 (£400,000) ransom payment to prevent the data from being sold to other parties. In a filing to the US Securities and Exchange Commission, Live Nation said that on 27 May "a criminal threat actor offered what it alleged to be Company user data for sale via the dark web", and that it was investigating. ADVERTISEMENT The number of customers affected by the data breach has not been confirmed by Live Nation. The Ticketmaster breach was first revealed by hackers who posted an advert for the data on Wednesday evening. Ticketmaster refused to confirm it to reporters or customers and instead notified shareholders late on Friday. |

Seems low. This past year at my daughters college they had their servers hacked by a "foreign entity". She couldn't do shit for like a week. Lots of rumors that the college finally said **** it and paid them what they wanted.
Also, several years ago, a family member worked for an attorney in the Springfield area. His shit got taken over by hackers and he quietly paid them what they wanted to get them to leave him alone. I doubt he bragged about it in his next commercial. It must be good business for the hackers. |

But these Ticketmaster guys just got a data dump of customer data, most of which has probably already been dumped repeatedly. Doesn't sound like they even got full credit card numbers. They probably calculated that Ticketmaster will pay the ransom for P.R. purposes. |

Yeah, I hate the hackers, but it would be kind of cool if they structured their ransom demand as:
$300,000 - base ransom demand $73,000 - convenience fee $47,000 - online service fee $29,000 - state and local tax avoidance fees $15,000 - password defeating fee $14,000 - miscellaneous anti-regulatory fees $7,000 - narc disposal fee $6,000 - anti-security measures $4,000 - online pornography subscription coverage fee $3,000 - phishing email distribution fee $2,000 - law enforcement avoidance fee Total: $500,000.

I actually was up for a job with them when I was first starting out with cloud security. Only the first interview, then ghosted. Every single cloud I built from scratch hasn't been hacked or compromised.
It helped that I spent a year of my life restoring these large companies data. Not a single one ever announced it to the public or their shareholders. Never told the government. And no violation of laws happened. When these big business's get to write their own governing laws, this is just part of the system.

Look, I'm all about sticking it to Ticketmaster. Still, this is not unique to TM. This has been happening to all kinds of places , some with which I have done business. It is becoming an epidemic. It doesn't seem to matter how careful I have been to protect my identity. These businesses get hacked and now you're out on the dark web. And they just give you a free subscription to identity protection for a year. It's complete and utter bullshit.
