Repair chipped tile or not
We just had a few rooms of our house done in wood look tile, the job was finished yesterday. I need the brain trust of CP to tell me if I should ask them to fix a small chipped tile spot that we found this morning. Yes, it is small as shown in the zoomed out picture, but it is in the middle of the room. If this was in a corner, I would no doubt let it go.
Also given the cost/labor of this tile job, I expected them to not to have a finished product like this where someone clearly noticed and decided to grout the chip instead of fixing it! I am suspecting that something was dropped on it near the end of the project and since this tile was already set, they didn't want to **** with it. My concern is asking them to come rip out this tile and repair it could have it looking worse, correct, messing up the surrounding tiles/grout? Should I even bother with this? |

That’s pretty nitpicky to me.

Absolutely not.
You’ll find yourself doing a lot of repairs if that is your threshold.

Well I'm not talking about repairing things over time as we live in the house but this job was just finished yesterday. I am on the fence though, which is why I am here. My wife wants this "fixed" though.

They need to fix it, or give you money back on how much it would cost to fix it.
I'd take the money. |

I should also clarify, I do live in a neighborhood with curbs and garages.

I get it. It's always a little deflating (for lack of a better word) when you get something done and right away notice some imperfections, but in my experience, there is a somewhat normal level of wear and tear that comes "built in" with most remodeling. We tend to notice flaws immediately in new work that we would miss entirely had it been there a few months. I'd let it go because you are correct, if you have it "fixed" it will just lead to noticing another thing and so on and so forth.
Flooring looks good overall, though. |

You should absolutely make them replace the tile. They should be able to handle it fairly easily.

If you spent quite a bit to have this done, then I'd 100% ask them to come and replace the thing. It's going to bug you and your wife and it is brand new. It's not hard to replace an individual tile and they should only really have to replace 2 at most. It is your house and your money, so if you feel like it needs replaced, then have them do it.
***If you do not get fixed now and then decide in a few months to have it fixed because your wife nags you to death or it bugs the shit out of you, then if you didn't save any of the tiles you run into the chance of getting a tile that is a different lot number than all the rest it's not going to be exactly the same shade. It will be pretty noticeable right in the middle of the room.*** |
