Man, the phasers on the Enterprise always sucked. They were never effective.

Every time I heard Kirk or Picard or whatever bark out, "Fire phasers" I was like, "Why even ****ing bother? Just go straight to the torpedos, man"

You need a third warp nacelle to really generate enough power for the super phaser.

WOOOOW.... seriously?!?!?!?!?! I am ridiculously disappointed in you bud.

Warp Nacelles don't generate power. They typically house the Bussard Collectors and use the power generated by THE WARP CORE in order to generate a stable warp bubble/field.

Stick to Star Wars analogies.

You fool. Everyone knows that you collect the bussards to fuel the warp core.

More nacelles = more bussards = more fuel = more powerful warp core = SUPERPHASER.

At least that's what Mr. Vader's Guide to the Millennium Enterprise tells me.

There's a reason for that. Don't want your limited photon torpedoes slamming into fully powered shields. Phasers are used to bring down shields.

Hmm, I'm curious what's the benefit over a rocket and many times can it shoot bogies down before the batter becomes an issue or it gets too hot? I'm wondering if it's just cool rather than effective, showy.

It’s cool seeing it fire but I’m curious about what damage it does. I would love to see some Somali pirates get blasted by laser trying to jack a ship.

It's cool to see it fire, but how useful is it in shooting down aircraft/missiles? How easy or difficult is it to redirect fire to another target? What is the rate of fire? What is the probability of kill when you hit a target? What is the probability of missing a target? Are there countermeasures that might render the weapon ineffective? Is the weapon more effective than current defensive systems? How much does the weapon cost and what is the additional cost per use? How susceptible is the weapon to breakdown in combat conditions? How difficult is it to employ the weapon? How many sailors does it require for operation? How much training do those sailors need to operate it? How often will the weapon be inoperative? Will sailors be able to repair the weapon themselves, or will it require the ship to return to port? How long would repairs take? Will delays for repair endanger the fleet?

These are questions that I came up with just off the top of my head. Weapons systems always look awesome when they are presented and that is because demonstrations are always meant to tease us with possibilities, but the realities of combat dictate that such systems be questioned thoroughly and tested realistically. Lives depend on it.
