Rebuilt for New Run
I'd be less then truthful if I did not admit going into the Super Bowl that I had doubts. The Chiefs have had a great seven year run but I feel it's gone as far as it can with the current talent. The Chiefs have been able to go as far as they have because they have played as one team and executed as a single unit. But talent level of other teams has been able to overtake the Chiefs. I feel it will take 2 years to restore the team to a new elite level. My thoughts on the priorities are as follows:
Offensive Line: Thats a given. When a elite Guard has to be moved to left tackle just to give the team a chance, there is an issue. Even with that, the whole line was able to be pushed back to where there was no pocket for Patrick to step up into. D-Lines just slide sideways for the sack. I also feel the interior line could not consistently open running lanes. The Eagles only needed their four down linemen to bring pressure. Not good!
Secondary: The loss of Snead was big. The secondary allowed too many chuck plays.
Defensive Line: Opposing QB's have too much time to scan their receivers. To create pressure required blitzing. Only rushing 4 left big pockets and more time than the secondary could handle.
Tight End: There have been a ton of drive killing drops from the tight end position this year. A Tight end who can get contested catches is needed.
At this point, time to start looking at trading and aquiring draft picks. I do think it will take a couple years to retool. I do not think throwing stop gap measured at the problem will work anymore.
