Jerry wanted to give him a 2 year deal and go after Belichick next season I'm guessing...

McCarthy wanted 3-4 and overplayed his hand.

Now he'll be some offensive quality control assistant somewhere. And the Cowboys will hire some other overmatched puppet I'm sure.

Apparently he was denied because they were working on an extension. It just turns out they couldn't agree on terms so they let him go. It's not really malicious. Just another failure of a fail owner.

Yeah, I'm not against it, and I don't think he is that great.

But, before this Vrabel was the hot name in the coaching openings. Reminds me of people going after Jeff Fisher like he was a hot name after the Titans.

Also would've prevented Jones from having to bid against himself. I kinda saw it as a negotiating lever for Jones. He didn't want the Bears to show up and say "well this is what we were thinking in terms of $$$/yrs..." and then have McCarthy's people showing up wanting that or more.

Or hell, McCarthy's people could've done the interview and then just made UP the figures 'floated' by the Bears. Jones just took that out of the equation.

Made sense to me if you had any interest in bringing McCarthy back. And the Bears still haven't hired anyone so there's no real harm done.
