I watched a YouTube video about Kurbik and Duval's relationship during the filming of 'The Shining'. It really did put perspective on sheer and genuine horror she displayed during the "Here's Johnny!" scene.

Yup, I have the docu about the making of it and he tortured her with all kinds of tactics like 100+ takes of the same scene... all to make her a nervous wreck, and therefore get exactly the performance he wanted from her

Shelley was great. Nashville, The Shining, McCabe and Mrs Miller, Roxanne, Popeye, etc…. Kubrick put her through absolute hell on The Shining, but damned if she didn’t put in maybe the performance of her career. The terror and total exasperation were palpable. Poor woman had a rough ride the past couple decades, but hopefully she’s in a better place on the next journey, so to speak. RIP.
