One week out - Mock

Just a caveat that no trades will be outlined in this mock. I might adjust/create another mock the day before the draft next week if anything changes in this regard.

(1) #32 - J.K Dobbins, RB , Ohio State
- A lot of people will scream "you cannot draft a running back in round one" and other such fallacies. The fact of the matter is, the Chiefs running back by committee approach brought about mixed results in recent history. Dobbins can bring a near bell-cow level of production if given the opportunities and this is a way to not only protect Mahomes from taking too many dropbacks and potential hits, but it also affords the offense better situational efficiency in both short yardage and red zone scenarios. Dobbins is a good fit in Reid's zone scheme (especially outside zone) and he is a dependable and productive pass catcher. He is a player that gets better as a game goes along and can bring the physicality to the position it has lacked since Kareem Hunt was released.

(2) #63 - Bryce Hall, CB, Virgina
- Hall should project as a much higher pick/talent, but I anticipate a drop on draft day due to significant medical concerns. Hall dislocated an ankle/broke his fibula and tore a ligament midway through the 2019 season. The good news is that the Chiefs have competent starters in Ward/Breeland/Fenton to carry the team while Hall gets up to speed and acclimates to the pro game, while not being in a position to rush him into game shape. Hall is a savvy, physical corner with good measurables who is arguably better in zone coverage than man, but is competent in either technique. Hall is a fearless tackler and is an asset in run defense.

(3) #96 - Logan Wilson, LB, Wyoming
- The Chiefs have eyed cover linebackers the past couple drafts but could never get elite prospects they wanted at the time they were on the clock. Wilson is a quick diagnosing, heady player, who understands zone pass coverage responsibilities and he has enough athleticism to chase down plays to the perimeter. While not a devastating tackler/hitter, Wilson makes up for a lack of an identity as a thumper with correct reads and a great first step. Wilson can be an asset on special teams and fills the need of a true Will linebacker the Chiefs have desired for some time.

(4) #138 - Hakeem Adeniji, OL, Kansas
- Adeniji brings experience and versatility to the table as a multi-year starter for the Jayhawks. Playing primarily Tackle in college, Adeniji was moved inside to Guard at the Sr. Bowl and had a nice week where he impressed with his movement skills and consistency. While Adeniji will not be mistaken for a road grader or mauler, he does understand angles and has good feet that win him positioning. Probably best suited for a zone run scheme, Adeniji can become a versatile, dependable lineman with time.

(5) #177 - Antonio Gandy-Golden, WR, Liberty
- Gandy-Golden brings nice size at 6'4", 223 lbs., and has shown a special kind of agility with run after the catch prowess that is characteristic of smaller/speedier players. A speed/weight/height prospect, Gandy-Golden will have to refine his route running and work on a few concentration lapses at the next level, but he often wins in 50/50 ball situations and gets adequate separation off the line against press for such a big player.

Love Wilson and Dobbins and agree that Hall could be a steal if he drops to our pick in the 2nd.

Every relatively accurate board out there has Wilson rated around 60th. Based on that and actual game film, I don't see how he's there at 96. I'd be ecstatic, but I find it doubtful. That being said, if there's a position that falls on the regular its LB. It sure would be nice to snag him at 96. I like the mock, really.

The absolute lowest Wilson drops in my opinion is Denver in the 3rd. If we want him, we're going to have to trade down and pick up a 3rd or draft him in the 2nd.

Adeniji sounds like a lot of Reid’s recent linemen... lower round, light and versatile

God help me I just want a dominant force in there for once, what I’m reading isn’t anything to get excited about... yet another project

“Adeniji is a nimble mover, and it shows up in the run game, where he takes good angles working in space, consistently walling off defenders. He’s a knee bender and he sound technique helps make up for a lack of pure power”

-

“The question is does he have enough anchor strength to hold up at the NFL level. While his hand placement is good, he lacks suddenness and pop in his punch, and gives ground quickly when defenders get into his frame. He might be just about maxed out in terms of size.”

Sounds like just another Ehringer to me, not trying to slam ya JMO
