"Branden is another core guy in some fashion for us."

"Branden is another core guy in some fashion for us."

Am I reading too much into that quote? It's not often you hear about a "franchise left tackle" being a core guy "in some fashion." Is Haley alluding to something, or is he just using "Haley Speak"?

Here's the full quote:

Quote:
Q: Are you comfortable with Branden Albert as your left tackle?

HALEY: “This is why I hate to talk about specific guys because it’s a much bigger list than I will go through. But Branden is another core guy in some fashion for us. He’s a guy that developed as the year went on and made great progress with his overall conditioning and that needs to continue. He’s another guy like a couple of others that I spoke of that need to come into this off-season at least where he’s at now.

“Now, if on his own he does more to improve then that’s great. If we can get him to pick up where he left off he’s going to continue to develop. He’s a young player who is developing all the time and has the right attitude and mindset. I expect him to do nothing but get better.

“One of the things I was most encouraged about over this last stretch of games was the sack total. It showed that the offensive line had improved, that the quarterback has improved, the backs had improved, and the overall understanding of what we’re trying to get done when we throw the football has improved. That speaks volumes of all the guys but whenever you’re talking about the guys protecting the edge it definitely speaks volumes about them.”

Just sounds like what we say here. Albert sucked early, got better then was playing really well down the line. He is simply saying here that Albert needs to pick up where the season ended, don't get out of shape in the offseason and continue doing what he's been doing.

Normal stuff.

Probably just wants to make sure Albert doesn't get satisfied with his own level of play.

It's pretty straightforward and understandable to me, Mr. DaWolf.

I don't follow what your concern is ... with the quote, I mean.

It means Haley prefers Albert in tight jeans and a halter top.

Alright. I was wondering if he was alluding to the idea that he wasn't sold that the guy is a LT (with the "in some fashion" statement) by the way that sounded, because of all the rumors of moving him back to guard, but I certainly hope they don't mess with it...

Ah ... well, for what it's worth, I don't read it that way.

I think Haley believes that Albert is improving and is one of the few guys we have who can perform at a high enough level to warrant "building around".

Obviously, Albert was challenged this year with the new conditioning requirements as well as modifications to his technique. I think Haley simply believes that he has additional room to grow. That's how I read it, anyhow.

It does, except there are still a lot of people who still think we need to take a left tackle. Hopefully comments like this will start putting some of that talk to rest.

That's pretty much what I got from it. He sees the same potential that the draft scouts saw when he was picked at #15 and knows that Albert can be an elite LT. He wants him to keep working toward that goal.

Those "rumors" are fan based.

Secondly, this is just the Parcells line of "Coach-Speak". These guys rarely, if ever, lavish praise on their players.

They can "always do better".
