I wasn't sure where to stick this so I just made a thread...

The more I watch this guy the more I think he will be the guy that Reid and Veach truly like.

What sticks out the most is that he's massive and he's long, and, though he doesn't move like a gazelle, he moves well for his size. He's so much like Donovan Smith and, to a lesser extent, Orlando Brown Jr. He's also been compared to Andrew Whitworth and Bobbie Massie.

You just aren't going to have an easy time getting through this guy with power and you have to enter another zip code to go around him. That means a lot of switching it up to hopefully beat him with an inside counter or having a ton of speed at your disposal.

He has sloppy hands that are all over the place but his footwork is good. Coach up those hands and technique against inside moves and I think he can be a guy that keeps the QB mostly clean.

Not my favorite but he just feels like a fit for what Reid has had at LT for a while.

Yeah, not perfect but he looks like a 5 year starter at LT to me. Love the size and has Big 10 experience. He's a legit LT prospect. I think if he's there at 31 you turn in the card and you really don't think twice.

I like Ersay. I personally think Belton is better though. They are roughly the same size. But Belton seems to be an easier mover.

I think both could lose 15 more pounds to be a little more quicker and athletic.

I agree, and suspect he'll be available later too. Just not a fan of Ersery, and burned somewhat by LT prospects with bad hands after last year. But can see Crow's point re the fit, possibly better than I'd have thought pre-OBJ.

Yeah -- heavy feet and iffy technique doesn't scream "run up there to turn in the draft card at 31" to me...

That's a need pick and little else, IMO. I really can't see a scenario where I'm taking him in the 1st.

Talk to me at the back of the 2nd. Maybe.

But no, I don't see any sort of surefire 1st round pick there at all.

Yes, it is draft season, and there are plenty of people around here that believe 10 running backs are going to be selected before the Chiefs pick in the 2nd round....

My point on Ersery is that I can see Andy really liking him as a prospect and thus pulling the trigger if he's there. Thats all. And if they did it, I'd accept it.

As far as OT in this draft goes here is my position.

1. FA has to play out first. If they bring in a guy to play LT, it obviously impacts the draft, however they probably still need to be looking at both tackle spots.

2. The last thing I want the Chiefs to do is trade up for a tackle. We simply can't afford to spend the draft capital to take one the tackles that would be in our rage to acquire. They can take one at 31, or lower and I would understand it, but I wouldn't move up.

3. I'm firmly in the DT camp in round one, but when you are drafting at the 31st sport it all depends on how it falls. The right one needs to be there. With or first 4 picks I think the team needs to come out with a DT, OT, CB, and RB.

4. I know many are down on the talent in this draft, but besides LT, I think its got plenty for the Chiefs. I'd love to acquire another top 100 pick, but I don't think tagging and trading Smith is a possibility. But Chicago has two picks in the 2nd and I'd love to snag one because it would solve a lot of issues IMO.

Oh I'm not being mean.

I've just made this same joke for the last 3-4 years now.

I just wait until the first "I'd be fine with us taking him in the 1st round" post for a guy that's going to end up in the 3rd or 4th round and know that draft season has arrived. It's usually around late February.

I should just call it the Oruwariye Rule.

Because we had a vocal group of dudes that spent 2-3 weeks talking themselves into him in the 1st round. Dude went in the 5th.

It's a tradition unlike any other...

Though lets be completely fair here - you're walking it back a little. This: "My point on Ersery is that I can see Andy really liking him as a prospect and thus pulling the trigger if he's there. Thats all. And if they did it, I'd accept it." is a fair bit different from this: "I think if he's there at 31 you turn in the card and you really don't think twice."

The former is acceptance. The latter is endorsement.

To be fair, the Chiefs have picked at the end of the first rd for years now. It’s that weird grey area where guys in the top 40 could possibly go 1st rd.

The Chiefs themselves have fallen into this multiple times with Clyde and Felix. Neither should have been first rd picks and ended up being reaches.

But hey some of us have guys we loved and were mocked for it. I remember hearing that Derrick Hall, one of my favorite guys that year, wasn’t a 1st rd talent. They took Felix who has busted while Hall just had 8 sacks, 2 FF’s, 20 QB hits and 6 TFL.

Sometimes the 2nd rd guys can easily have a case to be first rd value, especially at pick 31/32.

As for Ersery, I don't particularly like him in the 1st but I think he's probably a top 45 guy. That speaks to your point where if you are picking at 31/32 and you like a guy, you probably are going to take him there and not wait unless you feel he's closer to a 60 guy.

Just depends on the specific draft.

For instance I think the idea that "Well FAU was similarly situated to every other prospect available at 32..." is just a bit wrong.

I do think Joey Porter Jr was a clear better raw prospect that FAU. And I think MOST years, there's still a guy who's better than the remaining possibilities sitting at the back of the 1st.

Honestly, while I love what Worthy brought to the table, I thought Cooper DeJean was a clear tier above the remaining prospects when we picked last year. I do think there's always someone 'better' than the rest at the back of the 1st.
