Is backing into a parking spot worth the effort?
Is it worth the time and effort to back into a parking spot?

Has this always been a thing? It seems like I've noticed it more and more over the last five to 10 years. Did back up cameras make it more widespread?

I don't seem to remember this practice 25 years ago.

I think it's obvious that traditional park front end, back up to leave saves time.

Is the risk of backing into a car driving by while leaving enough of a concern to start doing this practice?

Time and effort? To back a car into a parking spot? Sounds like some people should just spend a little more time and effort into learning basic driving skills.

Exactly. It takes very little additional time at all, if any. I used to have to back trucks loaded with hay into barns with an inch or so clearance on each side. I was probably in middle school.

Not everybody is a bad ass like you are.

What about the person who takes forever to back into a spot in a crowded lot where practically every space is taken?

What about the driver who ignores two parallel rows of open spots where they can practically drive forward and have their precious spot with front end facing forward. They don't have to back up at all arriving or leaving. Instead of doing the obvious easy move, they spend an additional 30 seconds backing into a spot to get 10 feet closer to the building.

What's the added benefit of doing it though? I'm only asking questions to determine if it's the best way to park. L.A. Chieffan is the only one to provide an explanation why it's best to back in.

In both scenarios you have to at some point back the car up. The amount of time you back the car up is the same no matter when you choose to do it.

It's really a turn off when guys can't drive.

But in one scenario you back the car into mostly empty space, and in the other you have to align it with the parking stripes and not hit the car behind you, or possibly some protuberance sticking up that you can't see.

Granted through a lot of accidents happen when backing out of a parking space. So it may even out.

I just pull through so I don’t have to back in. If I have to go further down the lot to pull through, so be it.

I find it annoying to back out of a parking spot when leaving, especially the closer you are to the store. Pedestrians and other vehicles can come out of nowhere, so it makes leaving much more convenient.

first of all, unless you are a truck (ute) it is POINTLESS to reverse park. the doors open the wrong way (if yer a volkswagon beetle go for it), and the boot, get ****ed!!! (for those that 'drive thru')

it takes WAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY more time to reverse park than it does to drive out backwards.

it should only apply to emergency vehicles for a quick get away. it's done this way at every mine site. BUT THAT DOESN'T MEAN IT WORKS AT THE GROCERY STORE!!!!.
