Cowher is NOT Marty
I don't know why people are peddling around this idea that Cowher is Marty v.2

-Cowher won a Super Bowl, Marty won 0
-Cowher has been to two Super Bowls, Marty has been to 0
-Cowher won 12 playoff games to Marty's 5 (in 6 less seasons)
-Cowher loves to run trick plays, fake punts, and go for it on 4th down, Marty does not

Yes, Marty and the Chin run the same defense. Yes, they both love to run the ball. But the similiarities end there.

We don't hate Marty because he loved to run the ball, we hate him because h loved to run the ball in the wrong situations and fell into a shell with the game on the line. We don't hate Marty because he couldn't win, he hate him because he couldn't win when the game counted. In other words, we don't hate him because of his coaching style, we had him because of the coaching decisions he made when the game was on the line in the playoffs.

Cowher doesn't make those kinds of mistakes. I have NEVER heard anyone refer to his Steelers as a Marty-ball team.

Let's stop all these bullshit discussions about how Cowher is another version of Marty. He's not.

Cowher's a **** who didn't win a Super Bowl until he dropped the outdated idea that defense and an offensive line wins in the NFL. Tomcazk, Kent Graham, Kordell Stewart, Tommy Maddox and Neil O'Donnell are proof positive that Cowher's a relic.

Rothlisberger was FORCED on him by the owners and only after he sat him on the bench for the first game did he realize he ****ed up.

Oh and BTW, they were 15-1 that season. Guess the One? When Ben didn't start.

The '92, '94, '97, '01, and '04 Steelers all had HFA throughout and didn't make it to the Super Bowl. The '01 and '94 teams lost to clearly inferior teams at home, and if Aaron Bailey? didn't drop the pass from Harbaugh, the '95 team would have lost to the Colts in the AFC Ch. game as well.

I think he's a great regular season coach and a mediocre playoff coach. He's a better coach than Marty, but that doesn't mean he should be our coach.

The 15-1 year, they lost in the playoffs to the Patriots. The next year was when they snuck in as the 6 seed and ran the table.

That said, I'd agree he's not totally like Marty. He won a lot of playoff games. I don't think his teams got caught flatfooted nearly as many times... some of those times they just simply lost to a better team, like the Patriots, etc. I wouldn't put him in the same category as guys like Walsh and Belichick but he's probably better than 90% of people who ever get to coach in the NFL. I don't think that's unfair to say.

The Chargers in 94 weren't better than the Steelers. The Broncos in '98 weren't better than the Steelers.

Exactly. Cowher is basically ripped on for not being Walsh or Bellichick. But how many coaches are? Only a handful in history.

You guys are extremely, extremely harsh when it comes to your evaluation of coaches. Tom Coughlin's won a Super Bowl, but he also choked a 14-2 season away with the Jags. Mike Shanahan's won two Super Bowls, but he also choked away a #1 seed to an expansion team and got run off the field a couple times by Tony Dungy. Dungy choked a #1 seed away to a lesser Steelers team.

You aren't going to find any coach who has coached for a significant period of time and had success that doesn't have some real ugly spots on their record. I'd challenge you to find one... up until last year Belichick was probably about it, but even he lost a perfect season in the Super Bowl. The only way you're going to find someone without something like this on their record is hire a rookie coach, and if you let him coach 15 years he'll choke some games away too.
