Football Raiders' tackle arrested - DUI

Raiders defensive tackle Tommy Kelly was arrested for allegedly driving under the influence, a high-ranking team official confirmed Tuesday.

Kelly's arrest was first reported by radio station KHTK. Players had Tuesday off, so Kelly was not available for comment.

The Raiders re-signed Kelly, a fifth-year player undrafted out of college, to a seven-year, $50.5 million contract with $18.125 million guaranteed.

He was coming off midseason knee surgery to repair torn knee ligaments. By making Kelly the highest-paid defensive tackle in the NFL, he was expected to take over the three-technique position after Warren Sapp retired.

Kelly declined all interview requests in his first four seasons but finally spoke with reporters at the start of training camp, saying his large contract meant he needed to be more vocal as a team leader.

"I understand a lot of things come with being a professional athlete, but I just like to play," Kelly said in July. "I just like to go to work and come home. Now you have to be a leader and everything.

"Responsibility only mess you up when you ain't ready for it. I'll be all right."

The Raiders return to practice Wednesday.
