WR, Leonte Caroo?

ESPN Insider Mel Kiper suggests Leonte Carroo to the Chiefs in the second round as part of his "Grade A Mock Draft." While I'm not the biggest fan of Kiper's, his write up of Leonte Carro is intriguing:

He's a strong, physical and advanced route runner. He's a little tightly wound and won't create separation based on pure speed and quickness. But he makes up for it with polish within in his initial stem. Utilizes tempo and will double stick routes to gain initial leverage. Also shows subtle hands to create separation at the top of routes. Very effective selling double moves. Separates well working against zone coverage. Avoids contact and shows quality spatial awareness out of breaks to settle in soft spots. Flashes savvy and strength to gain a clean release when working vs. press coverage.

Ball Skills 1 He has strong and reliable hands and is comfortable plucking the ball away from his frame. Utilizes his size and strength well and plays big in contested situations. Shows adequate body control adjusting to throws outside of the strike zone. Is natural locating and tracking the ball down field. He generally high-points the ball, but he will occasionally allow it to get into his frame on deep throws.

Big play ability 2 He's not a burner. Gradually builds to top-end speed. But he has deceptive speed and shows a knack for getting behind coverage. Plays big in one-on-one battles and poses a mismatch down the field. Quickly transitions up the field after the catch and has quality vision and instincts as a runner. He's not overly elusive, but he's a strong and balanced runner who can ward off arm tackles and move the chains.

Competitiveness 2 Has experience playing both outside the hashes and in the slot. He's tough and fearless working the middle of the field. He shows good focus in traffic and is a determined runner after the catch. Has good strength as a run blocker and moves his feet to sustain blocks. His effort can be more consistent in this area, though. Will look to peel back to block for runners after the catch.

Status Report
Leonte Carroo (Lee-ON-tay Cuh-ROO) missed two games in 2015 due to a suspension from a simple assault charge involving a female in September that was later dropped. Teams will need to investigate and factor that into his evaluation. On the field, Carroo is a polished and physical route runner who thrives in traffic and has had a knack for generating big plays, averaging more than 19 yards per catch in his college career. Left Senior Bowl with ankle injury after one practice. He projects as day 2 pick. April 9, 2016

Have to admit I hadn't heard of him until now, but I'm not a big college football fan. What do you my fellow CP fans think of him?

I'm not sure the production is there to justify the glowing endorsement. Does anyone know anything about Rutgers offense?

I'm a fan of Carroo, but there are some serious character concerns that would make it difficult for me to say he's worth a 2nd. I'd rather have Shepard, Miller, or Boyd there if we go WR. He's solid all around and has some of the best hands in the draft. He's definitely a 2nd/3rd round talent.

Agreed. And if all your WR's are gone, that means there are players at other positions that have serious value that have fallen.

Strong hands.. intelligent player.. good route running.

I'd be happy enough if he is the choice in rd 2. I'd slightly prefer Sheperd, as I feel he is a more safe prospect.. but at #59? either would be a win. ( same for Boyd )
