A txt conversation with a friend who's a lifelong Philly fan..

Overall, he likes Andy Reid and appreciates what he's done over the years. I feel that he's pretty much like most of us are about Marty. He's happy to see Reid go (like many of us were with Marty), but I've warned him that we've all learned sometimes you have to be careful what you wish for. Anyway, here were some of his points:

"Jamal Charles will never be as great a RB from this day forward as long as he is a Chief"

Me: "He can catch passes you know.."

"Andy reid will make the Chiefs meaningful in the league as long as the owner sticks with him. But you will question some of the personnel moves when drafting. You will win games but you will get sick of the fumbled time management at the end of halfs and end of games. You will get tired of hearing 'I have to be better putting the players in the right positions'.. You'll really get pissed at 3rd and short and Andy calls a deep route to a double covered receiver. That's gonna piss you off post."

Me: "Can't be worse than Marty running it up the center's azz on 3rd and long "

Me: "Oh, and 2-14"

He feels very strongly that no matter how awesome Charles is running the ball that he won't get the carries under Reid.

I just thought I'd share..

DT

Improving the passing game will exponentially HELP Jamal. If teams cant load the box, he's going to kill people. He will have a carer year next season, bank on it.

Hell, he just got 1500 yards in a year where every defense knew he was the only weapon...Imagine what he could do if he had a real offense to complement him.

Putting players in the right position would entail putting the ball in Charles's hands. That being said, this could be the greatest thing that ever happened to Charles for his career. I'm guessing this will drop his carries to less than 200. Even if he sees an increase in catches, he will have the option of running out of bounds on the perimeter on a lot of those, and the hits wont be as punishing.

Not sure Reid ever had the consistent running threat that Jamaal Charles represents. Even so, McCoy still managed 1300+ yards in 2011. I just don't think Duce Staley or Brian Westbrook come close to delivering the way Charles can.

All that said, it would be nice to have an offense that throws it downfield again.

Westbrook was a fantasy god under Reid, so shall Charles continue his reign.

one of my biggest complaints about dabol, his style of offense is so old and outdated, it came from a time before the screen was invented... I'm looking forward to seeing the screen return to KC.

I also had a text conversation with a friend of mine from NJ who is a Philly fan. He was not to high on AR, mentioning clock management and indicating that AR mostly rode on the success of the former DC who died. My friend did allow that KC had probably improved their situation.
I also asked if they noticed our fan revolt out there....he said, "Huh?"

i have lived in PA all my life and one thing I know and deal with daily is Philly fans.

Eagles, Phillies, Sixers, Flyers, Penn State you name it, one thing is for sure they are a fanbase completely different and delusional from any other sports fanbase

a Chiefs fan trying to talk to an Eagles fan about football is like apples to oranges, literally pulling teeth.

I wouldnt even waste your time talking to a delusional Eagles fan

This might have as much to do with Cassel's complete inability to throw a screen pass as it does with Daboll's offense.

It's not like Jamal is getting 20 carries a game now. I'd expect carries to be about the same with more receptions.

i dont know what they expect

that Shady McCoy is going to be this god now without Andy? That he's going to magically turn into this 400 carry workhorse or the next Adrian Peterson?

Shady McCoy is good and Andy did a good job preserving his career. Eagles fans dont care they just want him to be ran into the ground

You have to have carries to do that. He's not going to have a career year on 12 carries a game.

I dont care how many carries or yards Charles gets. The idea is to score Points, and if he helps move the ball and score points thats all that matters.

Over the last 6 years the Eagles averaged 26.28 carries per game. The Chiefs over that same span averaged 28.57.

The Chiefs had a high of 556 att. and a low of 379 att.

Philly had a high of 450 and a low of 384
