I don't agree with Craig Carton very often but he really made a ton of great points this morning as to why the hell did the Bills do this? No clear reason.

To reward the face of their franchise who has never once bemoaned his well under market contract. Like Mahomes, a rework of his contract was inevitable and best done now before top 5 QB salaries are in the 60-70M range. Most importantly, the extension provides a good chunk of cap savings this year.

Because of recent contracts for inferior QB’s getting $55-60M per year while Allen was sitting at $43M per year on his old deal. Seems like he was generous to do this deal at $55M per year instead of demanding $65M per year.
