Chiefs to the rescue?

Chiefs to the rescue?
After entering the offseason as the No. 1 prospect at defensive end, Hali's stock dropped precipitously because of average workouts and fairly mundane 40-yard times. People found out that, although Hali was a good pass rusher, he didn't have as much explosive upfield speed as they had hoped.

However, the Chiefs might provide Hali a safety net, writes ESPN.com's Len Pasquarelli. The conventional wisdom is that Kansas City will choose a cornerback in the first round. But in the Cover 2 scheme that coach Herm Edwards will employ, the cornerbacks have to play run support as much as coverage, and the Chiefs feel the cornerback depth in this draft will allow them to get such a player in the second round. The Chiefs have been onto Hali for a while now and he would provide them another pass rusher to team with emerging star Jared Allen.

Grain of salt-type post. I personally hope this is not the case.

I would think so too, because LTs are typically better to protect the QB's blind side, right?

Besides "only" getting 9 sacks this season, what did Kiwanuka do this year to drop to the bottom of the 1st round, after being called a top 5 pick had he came out last year?

He's been sliding to late 1st or early 2nd. He still remains my pick. But now I'm starting to get a woody about a trade down scenario to get us Hali late in the 1st and an extra first day pick. I hope there is some truth to Pitts' desire to trade up and get rid of one of their extra picks.

With the number 20 pick I don't see us being able to trade down and pick up any picks. Thank God today ends all speculation. And thanks for the knighting. I shall aspire to live up to the knight of n00bness title.

I like Herms plan. Pass rusher in the first. Cover two type CB in the 2nd. Cedric Griffin from Texas would be nice.

I take Lawson, and move Allen to the LDE spot. Follow the lead of the Bears defense. Two smaller, fast DE's to force the action. This could help our DT play considerably too!

As long as the Chiefs hang their hat on Hicks as the starter at DE, our defense will not be an elite unit.

I agree! Hicks should only be used to rotate in and out, and give the starting DE's a breather now and then! Let a Rookie line up opposite of Allen.
