Cardinals - Kolten Wong, Memphis: The former University of Hawaii star arrived as the 22nd overall pick in the 2011 draft, then hit .335 at Quad Cities. He hit .287 last season at Springfield after fading late. He is trying to avoid that his summer. “I think it was more mental, just understanding that this is a long season and you play seven months out of the year,” Wong told the Memphis Commercial Appeal earlier this season. “It’s a lot longer than I did in college. Once you understand that and you go through a whole year, you kind of know what it’s going to take.”
He is ready for the big leagues right now. His six-game hitting streak pushed his season average to .298 at the Triple-A level. Wong offers gap power (19 doubles, eight triples, eight homers) and some base path speed (17 stolen bases in 18 tries). Wong could become No. 2 or No. 7 hitter in the National League and play a long, long time.
