Look, we have the Sprint Center downtown, and we're lucky to have enough parking for events there. The last good parcel of land for a downtown stadium is where they built the Kauffman Center, so there really isn't an available land area big enough for a baseball stadium, unless you want to knock down a bunch of historic buildings.
Also, Kansas City is NOT Chicago, or St. Louis, or Pittsburgh, and that's fine. Kansas City is about comfort and space. Our city is one of the largest cities in AREA of any metroplex. The airport isn't downtown either, and that's not an issue for anybody. If you want to get drunk and party before and after the game, you can tailgate, or there's PLENTY of bars inside Kauffman Stadium where you can drink till you puke.
It's a perfect set up for families with kids, which is another big thing with baseball in KC. You don't have to drag your kids downtown in an unsafe area.
So there are two sides. And depending on your lifestyle and WHY you go to the game, there's reasons for and against a downtown park.
Kauffman is like the 5th oldest venue for baseball in the majors. It's starting to become hallowed ground, like Wrigley or Fenway. I say, love it and leave it.
