I must've missed the part where he said that college coaches don't have that experience (my feed did clip out for about 20 seconds).

Yeah, he said that certain coaches, by virtue of their experience, have some knowledge of personnel matters and that they will sometimes have a bit of a claim to personnel decisions, but I never heard him say that college coaches wouldn't be considered.

Either you're editorializing and inserting the paraphrase you thought you heard, or my feed cut out at an inopportune time.
