The reason why people were itching to see Pioli fired is because if he wasn't fired right away, that increases the likelihood that he'll be kept around.
Well, with this statement, things have changed. Hunt flat-out said Pioli might not be here next season. Given that, its not stupid at all to say "OK, I'll hold off and keep the powder dry until you fire him or announce he's staying".
