I don't love the trade either, don't get me wrong. But I'll go back to the fact that Starting pitching was the biggest problem and it's undeniably better now with Shields, Santana and Guthrie coming back. In the meantime the team at the major league level lost nothing to aquire that better pitching. We lost great potential in the future, obviously in an effort to win now.
I'm not going to jump off a bridge over potential no matter how good it looked. Of course it could blow up in our face, just like any other move.
