That's the thing ... it's not that he can't do it. He just won't.
He has the horses (assuming the defensive backfield is relatively intact) to have a very disruptive defense. He stays with his 'bend don't break' philosophy, though ... in spite of the fact that we just get eaten alive in small pieces while wearing down. An attacking defense, at least, might force a mistake and actually make a play once in a while that can change a game in our favor.
I get that his philosophy is dated, but he's done better in the past. I've seen it with my own, two eyes. It's very strange. Maybe the HC duties?
