The Royals placed infielder Yuniesky Betancourt on the 15-day disabled list retroactive to Wednesday because of a sprained right ankle. They filled his spot on the roster by promoting infielder Irving Falu from Class AAA Omaha. To create space for Falu on the 40-man roster, the Royals transferred reliever Joakim Soria from the 15-day to the 60-day disabled list.
Falu is a 28-year-old switch hitter who was selected in the 21st round of the 2003 draft. He has never been in the majors before and was batting .306 this year at Omaha.

What? Soria is out for the year. Why is he on any active roster or even a 15-60 day DL?
