Another interesting bit of Saavik trivia - the character of Valaris in Star Trek VI was supposed to be Saavik, but Roddenberry overruled the director since he didn't want to turn Saavik into a villain. Which I think really ****ing sucked - having Saavik in that role would have been perfect. She would have had a deep-seeded motive to never want peace with the Klingons (being half Romulan + David's death), and betrayal by a long-time crewmember would have been that much worse for Spock. Would have been awesome, especially if Allen would have reprised the role.

Agreed all around. It also would've explained the scene early in the movie with Spock mentoring Saavik a bit more. Valaris comes out of nowhere and makes no sense.
