Bottom line is the Chiefs defense just isn't talented.
You have two solid players in Brandon Flowers, and Tamba Hali. The rest are either trash, rookies, or average at best players.
Glenn Dorsey, for example, is an average at best player. Coming out of college, he was built up as this great pass rushing defensive lineman that's going to somehow revolutionize the defensive tackle position. In reality? He's one of the worst pass rushing dlineman in the NFL.
Derrick Johnson is another average player. Sure he makes interceptions from time to time, and also has a lot of tackles. Big deal. Anybody who watches this bust play can tell you that most of his tackles come 5+ yards down the field. And wasn't it just a year ago when Todd Haley benched him? And yet, now Scott Egoli gives the bust an extension? ROFL!
Eric Berry is a rookie, but that doesn't mean he gets a pass for piss poor pathetic play. You look at the kid's stats and say "Wow, this guy has two interceptions and two sacks. He must be good!". In reality, his two picks came off two of the worst passes I've ever seen. All Berry had to literally do was catch the ball, his picks required no skill or talent to make. Eric Berry is a good in the box safety, but as you saw last sunday, he's also a huge liability in coverage. Don't let his forty time fool you, Eric Berry is slow and teams will take advantage of that for as long as he is in the league. This guy was the number five overall pick, and has done basically nothing to justify that selection yet. If you wanted a slow, stiff, liability in coverage safety, you should have just kept Benard Pollard. Sad thing is, Pollard might actually be better than Berry. At least he can hit.
Tyson Jackson is a bust. Brandon Carr sucks. John McGraw is a country music star. Andy Studebaker shouldn't be on a NFL roster, same goes for Shaun Smith, and Kendrick Lewis.
Like I said, you have two good players on defense and those are Hali, and Flowers. But even those two players happened to have major flaws. Brandon Flowers is slow, and gets burnt by speed receivers as we saw two weeks ago when rookie Jacoby Ford made him his lil' bi'tch. And Tamba Hali is a good player, he really is. But the truth is he has limited pass rushing moves. He is a bull rusher through and through. You stop his bull rush, and he's done. Ryan Clady absolutely dominated Tamba all day. It was a joy to watch.
The point of what I'm try to say is, you shouldn't expect much from this defense that is so deprived of talent. You should give Romeo Crennel credit for this defense not getting fully exposed until week 10.
