The conference was on life support. Beebe managed to put together enough $ to get everybody back at the table.
UT didn't want to look like the bad guy in breaking up the conference and severing ties with aTm, who was threatening to go to the SEC.
As a result of the $, which is a combination of revenue disbursements that WOULD have gone to UNL and CU and the ESPN/ABC contract. (20-40 mill according some reports), The Island Of Misfit
Toys Universities (who had no offers) agreed to allow that money to be given to UT, aTm and OU. In return the TV contract will pay them up to 10mil more per fiscal year than they are getting now.
So yea, TIOMU's kinda gave up some money (that they never really had) but in return they appear to have at least 5 years of conference stability, as that is when the next ESPN/ABC contract will be negotiated (2016).
