Honestly I don't believe that. I'm sure Clark wants Herm to see his rebuild through one more year, but I take him at his word that he will leave that decision to the GM. I think the guy is just speculating like all of us.
All in all I can see Clark's point from 3 different angles:
1- You normally give a coach 3 years to prove himself. The first year of Herm should be subtracted because apparently it was all CP. Herm has really had two years (one can argue, only one year) of his rebuild movement. So (in Clark's mind) why not give him one more year for the youth movement to show any merit?
2- Clark might feel that the pool of available coaches next year is going to be more impressive than this year, with the addition of some big name coaches.
3- As long as Herm is supposed to be paid off anyway upon his firing why not subtract a year's payment (without work) while waiting for next year's available coaches?
I don't agree with these a 100% but I can sure see his logic. That said, I think he is still gonna leave it to the new GM as he has said.
BTW, if Herm winds up staying for one more year, didn't we hear that he wants to fire some of his coaches and replace them with new ones? That could be of some intrigue by itself.
