Face it: There is no "hidden" talent on this team. There's no "Jared Allen" in waiting and there certainly not a Neil Smith or Derrick Thomas just waiting to receive better coaching.
Guys like that, impact guys don't need coaching. You just turn them loose. The Chiefs don't have that right now on defense and the greatest D-line coach or defensive coordinator in the world wouldn't be able to create a guy like that with the existing talent.

I see the ratio at 70% talent/30% coaching in terms of overall squad success or failure. Right now our ratio on defense is about 35% useable talent, and 65% bad coaching.
As far as acquisition goes, I believe you should pursue a
minimum of 3 guys on both sides of the ball, at different positions( line, LB, CB on defense / QB, Line, WO on Offense ), who are going to be your high-output, well paid, and long-term career guys. RB's are a dime a dozen. That's your foundation; let FA fill in the blanks.

Absolutely. Look no further than LT's consistent January burn-out as evidence/proof.

Give the man the keys to the Kingdom, and do it yesterday.
I can barely wrap my head around the idea of a Chiefs team, a year or two from now, who competes at the same consistent level as the Patriots have in this decade.
Man, Carl Peterson really
did lower the bar...
