That's why it's important on who he chooses as his staff. IMO, you can't let a HC from college come in and bring in all or most of his staff from college.
This year we had Gailey bring in his OL and RB coach from Gtech and Eric Price from UTEP as WR coach. It wasn't a problem from a credibility standpoint because most the players were young and Gailey has the credibility.
Plus guys like Spurrier, Petrino, and Saban all have pretty arrogant ego's. They all rubbed pro players the wrong way.
Davis had Jimmy Johnson in his ear telling him he needed control of Personell as well. Carmen Policy and Dwight Clark had as much of a hand in that mess as Davis did.
I'm not sure that Pioli would pinpoint on Ferentz but the speculation is and has always been that IF he returned to the NFL it would come from one of the people from CLE/BALT that he worked with. From that list Pioli is close friends with him and guys like Phil Savage, Eric Mangini, Eric DeCosta, and Jim Schwartz were all around starting out as coaches/scouts.
All i want is people that are put in the HC GM and down the line, in those positions is that they are all on the same page and all know their role. The scouts spend 3 years on avg scouting potential picks. Coaches come in after the season and get their say but I think you need a sound personell dept to really get the job done like the steelers have.
It doesn't help with the egos of CP and Herm, so that in itself will help matters.
