A columnist for the Sun Times wrote a piece on PETA a couple of months ago (I tried to find it, but it's no longer on the website). Anyway, the basic gist of the article was how PETA must secretly hate animals or at least all human interaction with them, as they do everything in their power to prevent any interaction.
In a perfect PETA world, there would be no zoos. Want to see a lion? Go to Africa, and hopefully one will eat you. There would be no pets. Your house cat belongs in the wild, so it can be eaten by coyotes. That, of course, is what nature intended, and so does PETA.
I have no doubt these freaks care more about soaking a woman wearing a fur coat with blood than finding a home for Fido. Like all extremists who, because of the bloated media and the internet, get far more attention then they rate or deserve, they are simply agenda-pushing fascists.
