They have every right to judge his ability on what they have seen. But to judge on what they have not seen is pointless.

We have seen enough of Mitchell to know he sucks. We have not seen enough of Rich to know he sucks.

Again, why not let Rich or another player have a crack at MLB since Mitchell sucks ?
