False. Ripley's character arc was completely believable in Alien and Aliens. She's a well-fleshed out character. She doesn't do ANYTHING in the movie until the Marines prove they are utterly and completely incompetent.

Furthermore the protagonist has to be female because the Alien is a walking, hissing penis in more ways than one.

There's a right way to do a female lead and there's a wrong way. Modern directors keep getting it wrong.
