Buddy at work is a former bartender/restaurant manager/damn cook home cook.
I saw a recipe using red bud flowers to make jelly and thought it was nuts; told him about it.
He went out in his yard and picked a bunch of flowers off his red bud and made a simple syrup outta it.
You can see a very slight purple/pink hue; and it's got a crazy delicate flavor and color but it's damn good.
