My wife, without me saying anything said, "She's got a baby face, putting a tattoo on her arm isn't going to change that." Then I showed her what Ellie looks like from the first to the second game and she's like, nope. Sorry, she's doing an admirable job at acting, but the look just isn't there. The games looked like they recasted the character if it were live action, the show just wanted to be lazy and rush the product out there when if you wanted to use Bella Ramsey you'd have to wait like ten years for it to look convincing. I'm firmly in the boat of I hated the second game, so them splitting the second game into two seasons is going to drag so terribly for me, should've just left it at season 1, that story is incredible.
