I want this to be good, but man, I'm not having great feelings about this, and Shalla-Bal as the Surfer is one of the reasons. Just, why? Norrin Radd as the Silver Surfer is and has been one of the most popular characters Marvel has to offer, not his girlfriend from his home planet. With all the multiverse and variant stuff they've introduced, there's no telling where they'll take the story or who they'll bring in or where this is going to go (especially if they're laying groundwork for Secret Wars), but this just feels like a big tactical error by Fiege right now.
If you know the YouTube channel Nerdrotic, you know he has a very specific slant to his takes and on Hollywood in general. He has said that he's hearing this movie is going to be a heavy Susan Richards story, and that early reviews are coming back saying it's very hamfisted. The actors do well with their parts, and the casting has graded out well (even if I feel Pedro Pascal was a miss), but the story just isn't great. I trust him on his movie takes, generally, but I hope he's off on this one.
