An alternative idea is that a franchise guard is worth $20M or more per year and maybe the chiefs believe that Kingsley can be a top 5 guard in the league with continued development this year. The horizon on Kingsley being a top 5 guard in the league is probably much quicker than tackle. Maybe the chiefs just believe that Kingsley will be a great guard quickly and aren’t willing to wait for his development as a tackle. We often compare guards to RBs in terms of value but that’s just not true. Top RBs are worth around $13M and top guards are worth $20M. Guard is becoming a more valuable position.
