Anyone that thinks JC can lead a team to a ship doesn't know the first thing about basketball. I mean, honestly, all BS aside. He recruits as much talent as he can and he rolls the ball out there and says "score points". He's runs the most basic offense there is, which allows his players to simply use their athleticism and it's up to them to make shots or not. He has zero feel for anything on the offensive or defensive side that might work if things aren't going his way. He just continues to bang his head against the wall and say "score more". He shits his pants when the opponent goes zone or when they're able to execute simple pick and rolls multiple times. He doesn't design or practice out of bounds plays.
He talks all kinds of bullshit to the media because he thinks he's the smartest guy in the room...which is typical for a snake oil salesman. He's esentially a deer in the headlights when shots aren't falling for his team.
He's wasted more talent than any 2 or 3 coaches combined.
Lost an E8 with John Wall, DeMarcus Cousins and a host of other talented players.
Lost a F4 because his team couldn't shoot free throws (common theme--see:'08 natty).
Won a ship because he had Anthony Davis and a shitload of other talented players, but almost blew that one if his players didn't bail him out.
Completely missed the tourney twice.
Lost a F4 with an super loaded undefeated team because he tried to play the clock after getting a lead with 6 freaking minutes left in the game (another common theme that lost him several games).
Never recovered from that loss and lost 2 more E8s with way too much talent.
Then in his last 5 years, missed a tourney due to Covid, missed a tourney with a losing record after Covid, lost in the first round, lost in the 2nd round and finally, lost in the first round, with those first round exits being to freaking Saint Peter's and Oakland.
Waste, waste, waste. There are any number of non-HoF coaches that would have won at least 2 more natty's than Cal did.
Also, just got done watching the end of the puke v Zona 1st half. **** Cooper bundle of sticks.
Post Scriptum: Once coach K decided to do the one-and-done thing, he was the guy that got the top of the top talent, not Cal. He got the leftovers.
Cal owes 98% of his success to one guy. John Robic.
